Practice What you Preach!

You know what’s comical? Today I talked about people who can sabotage our healthy habits, or “healthy habit haters,” as Bites for the Better and Gena, the Fitnessista cleverly puts it, on my guest post today. Alas, I came into work today discovered it was a food day!

A “food day,” where I work, is a day to celebrate something – usually someone’s birthday – by bringing in food. Inevitably it ends up being mostly pastries, casseroles, and well not exactly healthy food. I think the higher powers were trying me to see if I was a hypocrite or if I practiced what I preached!

In those nondescript containers on the end are cheesy potatoes and breakfast casserole.

Luckily, I brought in a bowl of Natures Plus Flax Pumpkin Granola Cereal with organic skim for breakfast.

This stuff is seriously so good. I buy it in bulk at Sam’s. I ate my cereal like a content little coworker and ignored “the food table.” After finishing, I noticed there was a huge bowl of different kinds of fruit! So I loaded up on pineapple, cherries, blueberries, and strawberries. Yum!

Now, I’m not saying it’s horrible to eat anything that’s not healthy. If you really, really want a muffin, then go for it. Everything in moderation, right? But I steered clear, because I wanted to see if I got any comments from healthy habit haters, and I wanted to use one of my suggestions for it. Well, I got my opportunity, haha 🙂

An example of how one of the conversations w/ a HHH (healthy habit hater) went:

HHH:”Ohhh my gosh, this food looks great, doesn’t it?!”

Me: “Yeah, it’s quite the spread!!”

HHH: “Yeah, but you probably didn’t have any, did you??”

Me: “Oh absolutely! Didn’t you see the awesome fruit out there? Those blueberries were

huge! I chowed down on the fruit!”

HHH: “Oh yeah, those do look good.”

I just played along, not letting it bother me at all. However, I really think this HHH truly didn’t mean to be spiteful. She’s a very nice girl, and I don’t think I’ve seen her be rude once. I think she actually was paying me a compliment.

I just thought it was so coincidental that the diet sabotaging post and the food day happened on the same day, lol

Did you have any HHH encounters today? If so, how did you handle the situation?

Lunch was a huuuge, colorful, salad. I think I almost topped it with everything they had at the salad bar, LOL.

A few hours later, a friend stopped by my desk with a present! She knows I love chocolate and coconut together, so she bought me a bag of the new limited edition coconut MnM’s! These things are really good. I ended up splitting the bag with another friend here at work. She’s a chocoholic too, and her motto is, if you share chocolate, the calories leak out! LOL Funny, funny girl 🙂

The MnM’s were way too cute – they had little palm trees and beach umbrellas on them! I had to save some for Shane to see.

For my pre-work out snack, I snacked a la Caitlin at HTP and had fage 0% yogurt with a crunchy pumpkin Kashi bar mixed in, and then grabbed some of the blueberries that were left and threw them in the pool too.

It was a really good combination!!

It was a perfect snack to hold me over through out my workout, which was tri’s, back, and chest, followed by a quick paced 3 mile run. I ran the three miles in 27:39!!

I’m SO excited for the upcoming race. My race buddy and I are going to try and get out a few times this week and next to do some tempo training 😀

  1. I love how you handled the situation at work with the food and the HHH. Although it's not a big deal to have a little "unhealthy" food once in a while as a treat, it always a proud moment to know that you can look past it and find the fruit spread 100 times more delcious. And it sounds like you did a great job brushing off the HHH's comment and not causing and problems. 🙂

    That salad seriously looks amazing! Love all those healthy, yummy toppings.

  4. I am glad I am not the only one who has had to deal with rude comments that were made because I did not eat the junk food at work. I always felt like I was over reacting or just imagining that people were being rude. Next time I will try one of your tips.

  5. That is so funny about the M&M's, I have kind of a rule like that too, if you eat someone else's food, those calories don't count, i.e. food that I sneak off of my husband's plate totally doesn't count for the day's calories! Works kind of the same as the sharing rule 😀

  6. Natures Plus Flax Pumpkin Granola Cereal!?! How have I never heard of this!?! That sounds so incredibly amazing! I MUST try it 🙂

    Good job practicing what you preach – with that spread I don't know that I could do that!
