Brew-Gala

Gooood morning!

As my alarm went off at 5:45 this morning, the husband called in to me, “Sorry, babe, but it’s pouring again outside.” Ugh, pouring again?! To which I replied, “that’s OK…it’s not pouring under my hat and plastic baggie!”

And so I set out on my 5 mile run, hat and plastic bag in tote. The hat was for me, the bag for my electronics (iPod, Garmin, iPhone.) Fortunately, the rain had slowed to a sprinkle, and I returned from my run only half wet from the rain (the other half, from sweat.)

I took it easy since I ran a fairly difficult 4 mile tempo run less than 13 hours prior and ran the 5 miles with an average pace of 9:27 (wedding date!)

Bloomington/Normal isn’t what I’d call a big city. Especially when being compared to a weekend spent in Chicago, Bloomington/Normal is nothing to write home about. Now, compare it to my hometown of 35,000 and we have a different story.

That said, whenever there’s any time of ‘fest or festival in town, I’m there.

This past weekend Shane and I went to Bruegala – Bloomington/Normal’s annual Beer Fest.

sidenote: The woman holding that beer is on the news show Shane and I watch every morning! I didn’t even realize it until after taking the picture LOL

I was pretty impressed! There had to have been more than 30 different breweries featuring their brews

We didn’t even try half.

IMG_0328They were big pours!

And there were many more local  and home breweries than I anticipated!

Abnormal (a brewery from Normal, IL) heh

I had some favorites…

And some that got dumped out… 😉

And even some wine!

However, we bought FAR too many tickets. We ended up leaving a stack on a table for some lucky drunk fest-goer 🙂

There was also a concert going on out back for people to jam out to after sampling some brew-ha-has

We didn’t stick around to see if those hookahs were used…

I think I found my pumpkin beer!!

There were actually two that I liked – one tasted like pumpkin, and one like pumpkin spice. Completely different tastes, but definitely both pumpkin.

We had a great time…but I actually wished they didn’t fill up the glasses as much! I wanted to sample many more beers, but I also wanted to walk back to the car, not crawl. By the end, it occurred to me that I could, in fact, just ask for half a glass 😉

Afterward, we soaked up the beer with some Mexican from our favorite Mexican restaurant.

Chips n salsa!

And the usual – veggie fajitas. So good! So good!

A great late summer festival:D

What’s your favorite beer? I love me some Sam Adam’s Cherry Wheat, but I also tried a Sam Adam’s Blackberry beer at the fest that was fantastic. I’m a big Blue Moon fan too. I guess I like fruity beers? But I also love Amstel Light.

  1. I’m so not a beer person – there are VERY few that I like. I think my favorite is Landshark – it’s not very hoppy and it has a nice light mild flavor…great with a squeeze of lime on the top!

  2. I’m 25 and I’ve never had beer! I’m more of a frozen drink person like margaritas and daiquiris every once in a while.
I crave Mexican food like crazy right now, went Saturday and Monday night to get my fix!

  3. I’m not the biggest beer drinker, but I’ve fallen in love with Goose Island’s 312. It’s perfect!

  4. Blackberry beer? That sounds awesome. I like Blue Moon & Amstel Light too- my favorite is Flying Dog’s hefeweizen though 😉

  5. I actually really enjoy running in the rain!

I like Cider peers–hornys, woodchuck etc.

  6. I love beer festivals!!! My favorites are anything unique. I recently tried goose island harvest ale and loved it.

  7. Blue Moon is my absolute favorite beer!

  8. That Shipyard Pumpkinhead is awesome, I have had that before. My day to day is Coors Light, how can you not love the Rocky Mountains turning blue when it is cold?

  9. Kudos for you for getting out there in the rain. I definitely got up, walked outside and said eff this.

I was really disappointed with the Sam Adam’s Cherry Wheat. I love cherries and wheat beers, but that one just did not do it for me.

I’m a huge fan of ciders (Crispin in my fave), and 312 is probably my favorite beer.

  10. I just tried the cherry wheat a couple weeks ago, and it was SO good! Definitely got hints of cherry. I really want to try apricot ale.

  11. Good for you for getting up and running in the rain. I would have used it as an excuse to get another hour of sleep:)

The beer event looks really fun and I don’t even like beer. I’m starting to get into the fruity types (lambec) of beer hoping that I will be able to progress to liking “real beer”.

  12. I LOVE beer and I have so many faves! We have some great local brews around here so my top faves of those are the Choc 1919 and Coop Horney Toad and a Mustang Ale. Larger scale I like Moose Drool, Sapporo, Yuengling, just to name a few 🙂

Looks like a super fun time!

  13. I LOVE shipyard pumpkin ale! I tried it for the first time last year and it tastes like pumpkin pie to me. My current fave beer is Blue Moon honeymoon. Yum 😀

  14. Sam Adams is my favorite. I love all their seasonals, but Octoberfest is probably my fav…and it’s back on the shelves now!

  15. Good for your for running in the rain! I would have turned back over and gone back to sleep.

I don’t drink beer…at all. Wine is more like it. 🙂

  16. You’re probably gonna think I’m crazy – but I’ve never had a beer. Never even tried it! Just never got the notion. I actually didn’t have my first drink of alcohol until my wedding night (haha) when we had champagne.

You look super cute in the photo – love the scarf!

  17. Just found your blog, and I love it 😀

Also love the scarf/tank top look-too cute! Not sure I could pull that off though! As for my favorite beer, it would probably be Scarecrow, I think it’s made by Witchwood brewery. Blue Moon is probably second on my list, love the fruity flavor too!

  18. good for you running under the rain.. I haven’t tried it that yet.
I’m not a beer drinker, still can’t like its taste.

  19. you are so dedicated to run regardless of the weather! i would totally use it as a reason to slack 🙂
