Beginner Wine Snobs

Mornin’ mornin’ 🙂 How we doin this fine Thursday morning?

I’m a little slow moving…

Last night after training a client, the husband and I made a quick dinner: PIZZA!!

Right after I got AB (short for Alton Brown…my fave) for Christmas, I made homemade pizza often.

Then the excitement wore off, and I haven’t made it in about a year. Until last night:

I used Kath’s (Matt’s) whole wheat pizza dough recipe, and for the sauce, I through together what I had (next time I’ll write it down, because it was goooo-ooood!)

Another rave. If you haven’t tried Matt’s dough before, now’s the time, my friends. I actually made both the sauce and the dough the night before while I was making that night’s dinner. That way, all I had to do was have the husband take it out of the fridge an hour before baking, and preheat the oven.

The results did not disappoint.

My side had goat cheese + a little mozz + the sauce. Phenomenol!! Best homemade pizza I’ve ever made.

We needed a quick dinner because we were going out – on a school night!

I love going out during the week:D Kinda breaks it up I think. We headed to Swingers, a local All-Seasons Entertainment club for a wine class!

Oh what a fun class this was 😀 Don’t be fooled, this was really beginners wine class, with the advanced wine packet. The only way I could describe a wine this class was “fruity, dry, smooth, crisp, buttery, or…winey” LOL

Throughout the night, we sampled five different wines – two whites and three reds – and learned a TON about wine. (How I woke up and went on my run this morning I’m not sure.)

The merlot was actually my favorite!! Did you know wineries with merlot grapes actually went out of business after the movie Sideways came out? “If anyone orders merlot, I’m leaving!” Merlot gets a bad rep!

The instructor was awesome, too. Energetic, Entertaining, and Educated. The threee E’s 🙂 He was pretty funny too – and totally mocked wine snobs haha

Even though it was all ready past our bedtime when the class ended, we couldn’t resist heading to the restaurant next door for a little dessert 😉

We almost, almost, ordered some champagne OR merlot, which apparently both go well with this kind of dessert…dahhhhling ;)

But this was enough.

What a delicious night!

Soon I plan on putting together a post about what I learned in the class. And I really wish I could have interviewed Jason, the instructor. He has a totally awesome story about how he got to where he is now that I just know the blog world would appreciate:)

Well I’m off to go work, work, work! Have a lovely day, everyone!!! 😀

Have you ever been to a wine class or a wine tasting where you learned about wine?

What’s your favorite type of wine? I gotta admit, in college it was boxed Franzia, baby. But it’s currently a tie between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

  1. 1. That pizza looks awesome!

    2. What a fun night! I’d love to take a wine class like that – there’s so much I don’t know!

  2. I’ve never been to a wine class but my Dad and Uncle are constantly trying to teach me about it. I still feel clueless sometimes! I know when I DON’T like a particular wine (insert disgusted face here) 🙂 I prefer red in general — really like sangiovese and malbecs!

Gotta love college days with Franzia! We used to play ‘slap the bag’ aka chug from boxed wine bag and slap it when you’re done LOL. Or good old wine pong. My how far I’ve come!

  3. I was totally a boxed wine girl–and I actually thought it was good. 😉 Now my favorites are Malbec and Torrentes!

  4. Oh I would love that!! I love wine but really don’t know much about it. The pizza looks pretty fabulous too. I’m craving some pizza now. 😀

  5. FUN! I’m a bold red sort of girl…zinfandel blends are my new thang haha. Love a good malbec too.

Um, ditto the Franzia in college! We used to do calimochos with it (red franzia w/some coke – doesn’t work with diet coke though). AHH memories.

  6. ahahah your mixer’s name is alton brown. i love you. and i looooved your tower o pumpkin and the thunder thighs ad. yes, playing catch up. but well worth the wait! i dont know much about wine.. i only drink it when getting drunk. if i drink with a meal, it is a nice beer.

  7. I love wine classes! I love a good Pinot Noir, Malbac or Pinot Grigio.

  8. Look at you-going out on a school night! Haha 😉 I tend to like fruity wines, ones that have hints of pear. apples and what-not…And thank you! You’ve just inspired me to make pizza for dinner tonight! 😀

  9. I actually love that Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon that you pictured! I ususally shift between craving reds and whites but things that I can never do are: Wines that are too sweet + White Zinfandel.

Every once in awhile Marcus and I get to do a wine class or a tasting of some sort, and I just love learning more! I think it’s so interesting, but really at the end of the day, it’s what you love to drink that matters the most.

  10. I’ve been to a couple wine tastings, but I do more tasting than learning. I’m not a picky wine drinker, but I love a crisp, refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

  11. Your pizza looks good! I’m still trying to perfect my dough..it always seems to turn out “hard”. I’m jealous of that dessert, too!!!
