Hi there! I’m Paige, the face behind the blog, Running Around Normal.
Welcome! Here you’ll find a healthy living blog depicting my daily eats, recipes, fitness, distractions, challenges, triumphs, and running — around Normal.
Why is this blog titled Running Around Normal? Well, there’s two answers for this question.
The easy answer is I live in a town called Normal. And I run in this town of Normal. I think by now, I could set out at any spot in Normal, and run my way around the town.
The more “deep thought” answer, which leads to the real reason for this blog is that “normal” is such an evasive state that normal can never really be achieved. And why try to achieve being normal when you can be unique? This leads me to themission of this blog which is to promote balance, individuality, positivity, and obviously – a healthy lifestyle. Life is really about balance, and negativity like guilt, self-depravation, and self defamation do not thrive in a balanced lifestyle. So be yourself, accept (and thrive off of) your faults, and just do the best you can!
So, I suppose I should tell you a little bit about me…
I’m an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and a certified sports nutritionist. Currently, I work as a personal trainer and train clients in the Bloomington/Normal area in their homes and at a local gym, as an independent contractor, and have never loved a job more. My other website, Fitconomy, coincides with my work as a personal trainer and sports nutritionist and is great for clients who aren’t local. There I offer virtual personal training and nutrition counseling. I also work part time at a big insurance company here in town (referred to as BIC on the blog.) You can read more about my fitness and health endeavors, as well as fitness and health news, tips, and advice over at Fitconomy.
This isn’t how it’s always been though. Though my love for fitness and health has been more of a hobby than a career until more recently in my life, I have always viewed my passion for writing in a professional/career-oriented light. I moved to Normal originally to attend Illinois State University, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. During that time I wrote for the school newspaper, the Daily Vidette, anchored and reported for the school news cast, TV-10, and wrote endless soft and hard news style stories.
After graduating, I lost the passion for news, but my passion for writing stuck with me. What to do? After contemplating freelance writing and realizing I couldn’t make a career off of it right away, I accepted a job offer at the BIC, and the only writing I do there is about numbers, budget, and schedules.
I’ve always been passionate about fitness, but recently wanted to escalate it from a hobby to a career. In 2009, I took a class for ACE personal fitness training at the local community college. Loving and looking forward to every class, I knew I wanted to pursue the fitness field. I went on to study and take the exam and became an ACE Certified Fitness Trainer a few months later. Since then, I’ve cut my hours at the BIC to half, in order to persue the health and fitness field with more vigor!
I live with my husband of almost two years, our dog Niko, and our cat, Clarabelle.
Shane and I are homebodies at heart, but love to hike, watch endless amounts of movies, Frisbee golf, golf, bike, and hang out with friends and family. We also love to grill out and have a beer or two in the summer time:)I also have a wonderful mom, dad, brother and extended family. Thankfully, most of them live nearby, except my aunt in Florida, who is very fun to visit
While not training in the gym, working at the insurance company, or hanging with the fam, I love to work out! In the spring and summer, you can always catch me training for a race. I’m also on a sand volleyball team and can’t wait until the season starts! You can read more about my fitness and race recaps. You can read more about mydaily workouts in my workout log!
