It’s Shooow(er) Time!

Having a fab Saturday? I sure can’t kick!

Let me tell you, that Power Yoga was a SUCCESS! The class description said to prepare to sweat, and sweat I did.

The class is actually a class in the loft area of my gym. It’s an ashtanga yoga class with lots of vinyasas. It was also the “launch class” today and had a few newbies, so I’m hoping the regular weekly classes are even more challenging.

After class I was talking to the instructor about how much I enjoyed the class, and how hard it has been actually trying to find a good, challenging yoga class here in Bloomington. She felt the exact same way, and that’s how she got the idea to start the class. I’m so excited to start attending this class regularly 😀

After yoga, I did about 35 more minutes of cardio, and then headed back to the homefront to get ready for a shower.

Once showered, I felt a little snacky from my work out.

Lovely combo of plain Oikos, fruit + nut granola, chopped apple = happy belly

Tried to convince myself to clean the house, but only ended up doing one load of laundry, then started to catch up on your lovely bloggies instead 😀

All the sudden it was lunch time!

The last blog I read was Miss Snackface’s, and naturally, I had to try making some cheetahs!

OK ya’ll…I’ve made sweet potato fries before, but none like these. Yumtopia!!! Perfect amount of crunchiness. If you haven’t tried making sweet potato fries with this recipe, I encourage you all to do so stat!

But that’s not all. On plate numero uno, the cheetahs, and on plate numero dos…

Hummus and dippers platter! Dippers were orange bell pepper, broccoli, muchrooms, and crackers.

As I was finishing nomming, my ride to the shower came, and I grabbed my gift and headed out.

Twas such a cute baby shower! The decorations were adorable, and there weren’t too many cheesy games. Just a couple, and not the kind that make people feel awkward. My kinda shower.

Little self-tidbit: at my bridal shower, I didn’t have any games for the guests to play. Just mimosas 😉

Got home from the shower and started to actually clean the house. The original tentative game plan was to have another couple over for a night of Euchre, but that fell through, so the hubs and I decided to have a date night at one of our favorite restaurants in town, Biaggis!

I was feeling fun and had a martini while waiting for our table:

French martinis and I go back 😉

After being seated noshing on some bread and olive oil, our entrees came out.

For mine, I had the eggplant parmesan:

Gaahhh I can’t explain how delicious this was. Hands down best eggplant parm I’ve ever eaten.

Dessert, however, was in our future, so I had to force myself to only eat half – and there was a LOT of eggplant there!

Also had a glass of red, red, wine with the din:

Full, but not quite miserable yet, we ordered the white chocolate bread pudding to put us over the top:

OK…words cannot even explain how decadent and delicious this dessert is. I’ve never had anything like it before.

All right. That did the job. Now we were miserably full, and decided to linger a while longer, while digesting and chatting it up, and sipped some coffee to aid in digestion:

Now we’re all settled in for the night and playing a little Wii Mario World.

However, I’m beginning to think we should have gotten decaf coffee after our meal, because it’s about time for bed, but I’m ready to beat Mario World whether it takes all night! Back in the day, I’d do that all the time! Blasted sense of time…

Well folks, I’ve got a level two Sand World to beat. Hope you have a fabulous Sunday! The husband and I are trying out a new church tomorrow. We’ve yet to find one that just “feels right” here, and we’re really hoping this is the one. Wish us luck!

Do you like to play all the shower games at wedding and baby showers? I’m clearly not a fan. I’m a HUGE kid at heart, and usually love all games, but there’s just something about shower games that give me the groans.

Moscato and Cado Love

I had myself a nice little Sunday yesterday! Shane’s friend ended up picking him up from the Bear’s game, so I took off to meet my friend Heidi at the gym. It’s super funny/cute, because she’s due with her first child in December, and her belly is getting SO big. She’s all belly though. I know a lot of people say that, but I honestly don’t think she’s gained an ounce anywhere else (perhaps busting her booty at the gym 8 months pregnant has something to do with that;)) Well, she had two people come up to her and ask her about 5 questions, then tell her just how awesome it is she was at the gym. I told her I thought that was so nice, and definitely a confidence booster. She then told me after hearing it multiple times at the gym every. single. day. it gets old. I can only imagine! I still think it’s cute though;)

Anyway, I got to the gym about 20 minutes before Heidi, so I did some strength training:

  • 3 sets of 15 lat pull downs
  • 3 sets of 15 bicep curls
  • 3 sets of 15 rows
  • 3 sets of 15 lower back extension

I can already feel the burn in my lats. Burn, baby, burn!

When Heidi got there, we did 50 minutes of cardio, split up between:

  • 20 minutes of the treadmill
  • 10 of the stairmill
  • 20 on the elliptical

Then it was Starbucks time!!! This is becoming quite the ritual of ours. I ordered a nonfat latte, and since I hadn’t eaten breakfast time, I figured it’d be the perfect time to try out one of their pumpkin scones!

(not my picture)

After we finished our coffee and scones, I drove across town to get a new light bulb for one of my headlights. Hubski tried replacing it for me last night, but he got the wrong side, so I went ahead and exchanged it out for the right one. After that excitement (ha) I went to Borders, and read a little bit of Alicia Silverstone’s new book, the Kind Diet.

Fun Fact: Did you know that carnivore’s intestines are much, much shorter than ours? It’s a reason she believes that humans weren’t supposed to eat meat in the first place. Because food is able to pass quickly through the short intestines, but spends a lot longer time getting digested and setting in longer intestines. Interesting, eh?

I’d like to buy this book soon, but for now, I just got Dreena Burton’s “Vive Le Vegan!”

And as you can see, I also got her other book, Eat, Drink & be Vegan (thanks, mom and dad!) My parents’ got me that one, and came over today and gave it to me. I’m so excited to try out a recipe. And you can definitely expect a recipe from EDABV this week, per RAN dad’s orders! So far, my dad’s LOVED every healthy/vegan/gluten free dessert I’ve made him, so perhaps I’ll make a dessert in case I see them again next weekend!

So my dad watched the Bear’s game while my mom and I hit up Von Maur (duh) and Fresh Market. I got a beautiful sweater at VM, which I’ll post tomorrow, and a couple Christmas presents that went home with my madre.

At Fresh Market, we got tons of fresh fruit, and a couple desserts. I also got some sushi:

Raw tuna-cado roll. Mmm, mm, mm!

My parents’ got Potbelly’s, but it was already 3, and I had to go to a birthday dinner at 6, so I stuck with something light. This worked perfectly!

I said my goodbyes to the parental unit, did a little housework, and was on my way to Biaggi’s for a birthday celebration! Celebration it was, indeed!

Oh, moscato, d’asti. How I adore thee.

After I got back to the homefront, I kicked back, did a little leisurely reading (as opposed to homework reading – which is leisurely as well, I guess. But I digress..) and watched me some Desperate Housewives. Good epi btw 😉

Now it’s time for some before-work-yoga! The candles are lit, and the room is filled with vanilla-lavender scent. Yogadownload, here I come:) I’m really getting to like this little ritual, by the way! It really sets the tone for the work day, and helps me to keep the calmness with me throughout the entire day. Love it:D

How was your weekend? Any good Halloween stories or any super cool costumes??

Will you Keep My Banana? Giveaway!

Hi everyone! As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I have an exciting giveaway for you guys! 😀 I’ll post all of the details at the bottom of the post, but before you scroll down there, read on about my Friday night dinner out with my girlfriends!

After all of the excitement of my first 10K, I forgot to put up a post about the awesome dinner and time that I had with my girlfriends at a wonderful restaurant called, Biaggi’s!

Friday night we celebrated a friend’s birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant here in town. I looove this place. They have really great food and drinks:)I had a glass of Pinot before dinner:

And sampled a piece of that bread you probably spy in the back. ;-)Then for my entree, I had Butternut Squash Ravioli with Walnuts:

Looks and sounds awesome, right? Well, it probably would have been a favorite if they didn’t drown it in butter. It was one of those dishes where you could literally smell the butter. I was a bit put off by that, but ate most of it anyway. The actual ravioli were amaazing. Such a creative idea for fall!

After we all finished, we all split their famous white chocolate bread pudding for dessert – sooo yum.

And they gave the birthday girl their signature ice cream (spumonti) and it came out with a candle in it – so cute!

It was so nice getting together with everyone. A couple of them live out of town, so it’s harder to see them often. Everyone had a blast!

Ok, now for the guts of the post – the Giveaway!!!

There were so many positive comments on my post the other day about my Tupperware banana keeper , I knew I just had to do a giveaway for one! Thanks to RAN mom and sister-in-law for donating one (SIL is a Tupperware consultant) to Running Around Normal so I could share! 🙂

This little container is really cool:

  • It allows you to take a banana with you, without getting squished in your purse or lunch box
  • It keeps it fresher longer
  • It’s SO cute 🙂

And the winner of the Banana Keeper won’t find their banana keeper empty:

I’m including two random flavors of Lara Bars in the keeper. See, it can keep more than just bananas! haha

The rules:
The contest is only open to US residents. I’ll pick a winner on Thursday night!
