It Happened…

It happened. Last night, around 7:30 pm, the inevitable came true. It snowed. OK, maybe flurried is a better word, but still!! The wet rain transformed into solid drops, and it happened. And I was just warming up (ha) to the idea of fall!!!

And I’m not the only one who’s not a fan of the cold, wet, snow you know.

What the bark, mom?! It’s barking cold out there!

So that picture was from last winter, but ya get the point 😉 You’d think after 25 years of living in the Midwest you’d get used to it by now, right? I’m still waiting for that to happen.

One thing frigid temps are good for? Nice, hot, comforting breakfasts🙂 After I got back from training a client in the wee hours this morning, I wanted nothing but a hot breakfast to warm my soul. Waffles sounded nice, actually, but I needed to keep it a little lighter than waffles.

Hot spiced oatmeal in a Jif jar? Don’t mind if I do!

On top there? That’s my newest oatmeal topping obsession – Greek yogurt mixed with a bit of pumpkin butter. Unbelievable!

I had to keep it light because after I finish this post, I’m off to a spin class at my new old gym! I’m pretty amped up about this class. The energy is pretty intense from what I remember, and it’s a blast! And it’s inside 😉

Luckily, the temps are supposed to warm back up this weekend, though, so hopefully tomorrow I can get in a run (maybe? provided body parts cooperate with me?!) 🙂

That said, I have to tell you guys something.

I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, but I won’t be running in this weekend’s Hot Chocolate 15k.

Ouch. It hurt to write that 😦

I won’t be running for several reasons:

Number 1. My heel/arch of my left foot hates me.

Number 2. My right hip hates me too

Number 3. My cousin, who I was going to run it with, had to back out because of family obligations.

Number 4. One of my best friends is hosting a benefit for her mom because she has breast cancer, and there’s no way in hell that I’ll miss it.

So there. Call me a quitter, or not. I figured four reasons telling me not to drive to Chicago and run this race is a pretty big sign that I should cut my losses and fold my cards. So instead of wallowing, I’ll be proud of my decision, and proud of friends who are running the race, too! You girls have FUN! And good luck. Sorry I won’t be able to meet up…

Onward and upward -  I’m off to spin it out! Watch out nah!

Does it snow where you live? When do you usually have the first snow? There was no accumulation or anything last night, so I’m not sure if we Illinoisans can call it the “first snow.” Usually our first big snow happens in late November or early December!

Hump Day!

Hi there! How was everyone’s Hump Day? I had a crazy-busy day. It seemed like I didn’t even get a chance to go to the bathroom! Yikes…

I did manage to find time to NOM though! 😛 I’m sure loving Peanut Butter Puffins! They’re a perfect mid-morning snack after my Green Monster gets done digesting.

The cardio I did yesterday must have amped up my appetite, because just a couple hours later, I was starved! Hubski and I ended up going across the street to Panera for lunch, where of course I got the Fuji Apple Chicken salad! I need to find out how to come up with a dupe dressing and start making this on my own. I love, love, love it, but $8 for a salad? That’s a weee bit stiff.

Told ya I was hungry. Nom! (See Shane’s bread bowl in the background? He got the summer corn chowder – it was delicious, too!)
Even after inhaling this, I was still ready for more, so Shane and I split this:

I swear, the chocolate chipper cookie at Panera is to die for. I used to work at Panera back in college, and every night I closed, I always took home one (or two??) of these bad boys.

This monster meal held me off throughout my abundance of meetings all afternoon until I was ready for my pre-work out snack. I had a lemon Lara Bar, which is currently my favorite flavor. I haven’t tried many, but I sure do like this one!

Since I cooked dinner the past two nights, I needed a break tonight. Hubski and I debated getting Indian, then I debated getting sushi, but somehow we ended up cooking frozen pizzas LOL.

I had the roasted vegetable pizza by Kashi.

I gotta say, it was pretty darn tasty. The vegetables weren’t as abundant as the box picture portrayed, but I’d still get it again :-p Plus I sprinkled some red pepper on it – cause I like it spicy!!

Pizza porn:

Shane took this picture, and was so proud of himself. I told him he should be my photo guy! haha 😛 We’re such goofballs…

Oh, and since I’m still trying to kick this cold’s butt before it kicks mine, I had this:

Love that Emergen-C!

So, as planned, I headed directly to the gym after leaving work, where I proceeded to get a kick-butt strength training session in. I’ve created a new strength routing, which I’ll post about in tomorrow’s post. I feel I haven’t been getting in enough strength training lately. While body-pump is tons-o-fun, it just doesn’t give me the good-sore feeling that a really focused session gives.

Tonight I did:

  • 10 minute warm up walk on the treadmill at an incline
  • 35 minutes of shoulders, chest, and triceps (there’s a method to my madness, just you wait! :-P)
  • 10 minute cool down walk on the treadmill at an incline

I felt it was a good workout, and I can’t believe how weak my shoulders are. I was shaking! Yikes..

Tomorrow it’s back to pounding out the mileage- four miles to be exact! I might squeeze just a tiny bit of strength in if possible.

Well the hubski’s calling me to come down stairs and get relaxin’! Perhaps I might live on the wild side and make me some banana ice cream tonight! 😮 If I do, I’m definitely making the raw chocolate syrup to go on top this time (equal parts maple syrup and cocoa powder.)

I hope everyone has a nice ending to their hump day!:-D

Quinoa Challenge

Hi there! Sorry it’s been such a long time in between posts…tonight’s been quite the night…

Anywho, I hope everyone had a great Tuesday! Mine was great – I managed to keep my mood upbeat and positive all day long. For some reason, that started to change after work. A couple things didn’t go as planned, and all the sudden, I’m in a foul mood, snapping at my mom when she called, and then my husband. Yikes :-/ …but I digress…

Before I begin rambling about my day, I just want to say thanks so much for the well wishes for me to feel better from everyone. That was really sweet and made my day 😀 Unfortunately though, I do think I’m feeling the beginning signs of a cold. Crap! Well, I guess I haven’t had one really all year, so I should count my blessings.

My green monster I had around 6 this morning held me off for a good few hours before the tummy started rumbling again. I decided to have a bow of strawberries before lunch to calm the beast.

It worked 😀

Lunch was with Shane, at the cafeteria. I had my usual crazy big salad with spinach, broccoli, egg, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, tomato, and olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. It was fantastico!
That held me over for a few hours, when I decided to have some fage + Kashi Heart to Heart.

It was a good combination, but it could have really used some honey!

As I mentioned before in my morning post, I was going to try out a new recipe tonight for din. It didn’t really go as planned…too much quinoa, not enough shrimp, DH didn’t like half the ingredients in it, and so on. But, it looked pretty and I liked it! 🙂

I thought it was pretty good! Shane said it was edible. Meh, ya win some ya lose some, right? Oh wellll…
I was planning on following the quinoa dish with some yummy banana ice cream 😛 However, after the night I made for myself, er I mean, had, I needed something a little stronger.

A glass of red (as I’m writing this post!) sounded much better. It’s really going to take some time to get used to this new schedule of working out at night. It throws everything off, and I need to learn that that’s OK.

Even though I think I’m coming down with a cold, I think it’s going to be a head cold, so I stuck it out and did some cardio at the gym. In my personal opinion, I think it’s OK to workout if one’s sickness is above their chest. Anything chest or below, should require a rest day or a very light workout day. Don’t worry though, after using the machines I sanitized the heck out of em!

5 minute warm up and cool down, then…
3 miles @..
9:40 pace
– I’m not sure of my cals, because I forgot my HRM

Then I did the stair climber for 15 minutes and called it a day. Tomorrow’s a strength training day. I’m excited because I’m going to be trying some of the new machines at my gym 😀

Oh, and after working out, I downed some Emergen-C to try and ward off this cold.
I’ve never had it before, and was pleasantly surprised at the taste! I also thought it was cool that it replenished electrolytes after a sweat session. Double bonus!

How do you decide if it’s OK to work out when coming down with a bug?
