A Quarter of a Century Old

Hi guys! Welp, I’ve officially joined the quarter of a century club. The big 2-5 was yesterday.
Sorry I skipped on posting yesterday, but I was busy celebratin-g!

Speaking of celebrating, I have LOTS of shenanigans to tell ya’ll about. Grab a snack and your kombucha of choice, because I got a lot of writing ahead.

It started on Friday when I was done with work (which was a looong afternoon!) I grabbed the hubski and we headed out to meet some friends at Gill St. Bar:

It was one of my friend’s birthday, too. So we celebrated with a beer with her. But we didn’t stay long, because we had some plans…

Like going to the (only!) vegan restaurant in town!

The Coffeehouse!
This is in the Uptown section of town, very close to the university.

I used to walk down this street ALL the time to go to different shops (and perhaps a few pubs ;)) when at ISU. Memories…

However, for some crazy reason, I’d never been the Coffeehouse – this was my first time!
It’s very eclectic, and had such a variety of patrons. I felt I could be very much myself here.
We found a quaint little table in the back and looked at the menu.

It was SO hard for me to choose, but I ended up going with the…

Falafel pita:

and a hummus plate…

and oven fries…

ok well we shared those two 😉
The hubski got some vegan chili:

And EVERYTHING was delicious. They also had vegan baked goods:

But that’s for another trip 😉 I wanted to go back for lunch yesterday LOL. Oh but I will be back, for sure. The prices are amazing and so is the food!

Perfect birthday Eve dinner 😀

Came home and it was relaxation time. I almost decided to had a glass of wine, but I had my 10 (!!) mile run planned the next day, so I went with some tea instead. Yes, I ran 10 miles on my birthday. It sounded good up until the night before. Then, I thought, why? why would I plan a 10 mile run on my birthday?!

The Looming 10 Mile Run

I woke up feeling the same way, but there was no way out of it. It was mid forties and sunny, but windy, and damnit I was gonna do it.
Cooked up some breakfast for a little fuelage:

Banana oats w/ raw almond butter and organic jam!

And a few hours later, I was getting ready to head out to the trail.
This little guy helped me get some motivation:

One of Shane’s birthday presents to me:D
And while we’re on the subject, he also got me a BOSU trainer:

and a (pink!!) golf bag!

However, I think the golf bag and set is partly a present to him. He’s been asking me to play golf with him forever. I guess this is the summer! haha We’re not an active couple or anything… 😉

I was so excited to use my CamelBak on my run. I filled it with about a liter of water, and also stowed some Clif shot bloks and my car key in it:

Ready, Set, GO!

I ran on the trail because I knew the trees would help block out the wind. And boy I’m glad I did, because the wind was a-howwwling! The first couple miles I was kind of a downer and the number 10 just kept intimidating me. But by mile 3, I had gotten past my 2-mile-hump and had a good groove going. And around mile 5, I saw a sign for the David Davis Mansion (the house Abe Lincoln lived in when he lived in Bloomington) so I ran around the circle drive of the mansion. It was super cool – I had never been there before either. I wish I would have brought my camera. Next time I’ll remember to do so 🙂 Around mile 6, I remembered why I saved my 10 miler for my birthday (or it just so happened to be on my birthday, but I digress..) I was elated! Breaking a record and enjoying nature. Love, love, love it.
Around mile 7, I got a really bad cramp in my right calf, and stopped to stretch, ate three shot bloks, and then kept on going. Though the cramp didn’t go away, it faded a little. However it’s definitely painin’ today. I had a 4.5 mile recovery run planned for today, but I think I’m going to take it easy. Plus, I may or may not have a slight hangover, as well. What? You can’t judge a girl for having a few brewski’s on her birthday! More on that below… 😉

Ended up finishing in 1:37:03 with an average pace on 9:42

My Splits:

Mile 1: 9:44
Mile 2: 9:44
Mile 3: 9:53
Mile 4: 10:00
Mile 5: 9:57
Mile 6: 9:14
Mile 7: 9:47
Mile 8: 9:41
Mile 9: 9:41
Mile 10: 9:23

10 miles, baby!!!

Phew! I was glad I kept my average pace under 10 minutes, but I wasn’t as speedy as last week’s long run. Next week is 10 again, so we’ll see if the pace changes then.

Directly after showering, dressing, and green monstering:

1/2 banana, ice, almond milk, Amazing Grass, frozen cherries, hemp protein powder
I headed out with the hubski to get some THAI food!!! Can you believe I’ve never had Thai food either? We were first going to go to Flavors of India, our fave Indian restaurant, but apparently they’re closed for renovations :-/

Not to fear, we decided to hit up a Thai place:

Shane got a sampler, but it was all meat-based, so I sat there while my stomach ate my back bone for an appetizer.

And THEN came the grub:

I got the tofu pad thai and it was out of this world delicious. I love Thai food!!!

Somehow the afternoon FLEW by, and it was already time to head into Peoria to meet some friends for dinner and drinks.

note: shortly before I wrote this post, ALL of my pictures from last night got deleted somehow. I started freaking OUT, and then remembered my husbands a technology genius. He was able to recover MOST from last night. The rest I’ll steal from the other people who had cameras 😉

A big group of friends got together for mine, and my girl Mel’s birthday for dinner at Granite City.

These are seriously some of my favorite people in the world, and it means so much to me that they all came out to help me celebrate 😀

Before dinner, I had some sort of fruity drink. It had chambord in it, so I was sold 😀 I had one, and then switched to some water with dinner…which was:

A portabella melt with some grilled asparagus. It was aight. Not stellar, but I definitely ate it all :D

My girl Kim, who you’ve met during my cruise posts, and who now has her own blog, Sunny State of Mind (check it out! She’s just started a new Gluten Free diet/lifestyle and she’s writing about it, her fitness, eats, and fun 🙂 ) got me THREE Alternative Baking Co. cookies:

And a shirt from Destin that says "Peace, Love, and Sandy Feet" which is SO me. I have awesome friends. Just sayin’.

After dinner we all headed out to a bar for some more shenanigans!

Gah. Love these girls!

I probably only had three beers (only?) but I also had some birthday shots. I’m typically not a shot girl, so I’m not feeling the hottest as I write this post 😉

For some reason, we say “prune” instead of “cheese” after a few drinks 😀 hahah

The mens..including the hubski who was my wonderful DD for the night:D

CONVAR29We headed out around midnight and Shane and I made the drive back to Normal.

I couldn’t resist eating half err a third of one of my birthday cookies on the way home 😉

I have a couple new clients tomorrow, so I’m off to Borders to get some paper work and plans done! Later on, my mom, dad, brother, and SIL are coming to visit and go out to dinner 😀 The celebration continues!!

Hope you’re having an absolutely fabo weekend!!

Sushi Place, Euchre Face

Hi guys!

Having an awesome Sunday so far? I sure hope so 🙂

Yesterday morning I met my friend, Missy, at her gym for a 4.5 mile run and some legs. I was pretty happy I was easily able to finish the run, because I haven’t really been doing many runs over 3.5 miles lately. However, my training schedule for the half marathon starts calling for long runs every Saturday, so I better get used to that again 🙂

Around 11:00, I met another friend out for coffee, chit chat, and a little shopping, per our usual weekend tradition. I got there a little early, so I munched on half of a vegan oatmeal raisin cookie:

Which was consumed in its entirety by the day’s end. Yum!

Got home, cleaned, and just piddled around the house until it was time for some lunch 😀

Just a simple lunch of TJ’s Organic tomato soup and some kale chips

Mmm crunchy goodness.

Did a wee bit of laundry, and then when the hubski announced it was happy hour time, I certainly didn’t oblige.

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, baby! Ok…maybe it was 5 o’clock here 😉

We had plans to go out to eat and play some euchre with another couple tonight, so when they got to our house, we all went out to Hyashi – a Japanese/sushi restaurant here in town.

I started out with some Plum wine, while everyone else ordered Japanese beer.

IMG_1591 Both were spectacular 😀

And for dinner, I got…

Seaweed salad!… which was all right..

Miso soup, which was bomb, and a mushroom vegetable roll, which was also bomb!

Also had a second glass of plum while I watched the chef grill it up for the men at the table:IMG_1594

Bunk volcano..which apparently turns into a choo choo train when it moves? Choo choo!!

They also served us each a complimentary dessert of coffee ice cream, which was delicious!

It was around 9 or so when we got back to the crib, so we got out euchre faces on. The girls let the boys win (poor boy egos ;)) and it was tons of fun! Another couple ended up coming over to join in the fun, too. We stayed up past 2:00, so I needed another meal. Clearly.

I destroyed this new-that-day salsa and some organic blue chips.

Best salsa EVER, by the way 🙂

So glad I only had one drink when we got back to the house, though. I knew I didn’t want to be hungover today, so I sipped on water the rest of the night. Good call!

Kim and Jason stayed the night, and after some reminiscing and chattin’ it up, it was time for some breakfast! My stomach was a-growlin’ and I knew just what to give it:

Oats and coffee! If there ever were a perfect pair…

The ushe – banana blueberry flax oats.

Now I’m on my second cup of coffee since the husband didn’t want any, and am about to go hit up the gym. Arms today! Then hopefully convincing the husband or some friends to go see Avatar. I still haven’t seen it and really just want to know what it’s all about.

If you stay up later than usual, do you typically feel the need to have a big snack or 4th meal? (whether accompanied by drinking or not;)) If I’ve been drinking, I’ll typically have a junky food (aka chips and salsa) before I go to bed, but if there’s no drinking involved, that fourth meal tends to be in the form of  a dessert 🙂

Have you seen Avatar? What’dya think?

Glee Makes Miso Happy

Hi there!

How’d your weekend round out? Mine was A-OK 😀 Jealous of everyone who has tomorrow off, though 😉

After I left you this morning, my plans pretty much changed right away. My friend and I cancelled on each other, yet again, deciding next Sunday would be better for trying on bridesmaids dresses. I still can’t wait to see how it looks 😀 She got them from J Crew, and they’re about knee length, sleeveless, and plum-colored. Adorable.

So instead, I worked a little more on a project, and then had the hubski be my victim guinea pig, and then had him take pictures/shoot a video of me doing one of my favorite strength-moves for Janetha’s mini guest post.

I made the BEST juice ever from our Jack La Lane juicer.

The suspects:

I shook things up a little this morning. Usually I just do carrot + grapefruit. Today celery and beety came to play!

Turned out magnificently! Although the beet was rather…stainy, it produced the deepest red shade of juice ever.

Lunch was a mix of some new veggies I purchased over the weekend, and I knew I wouldn’t have time to make during the week before they went bad.

Radicchio pizza + Steamed Bok Choy:

For the pizza, I simply toasted an Ezekiel tortilla (which toast up superbly, by the way – so crispy!) in the oven, and then topped with sliced raddicchio w/ some olive oil and s&p.

Looks pretty fancy, doesn’t it? Well it tasted like feet! The recipe was from The Kind Diet, and it looked super good on the page, but I wasn’t a fan.

Apparently I don’t like radicchio. Who knew? It’s way too bitter for me. I did, however, omit an ingredient since I didn’t have it on hand, so perhaps that had something to do with it.

The steamed bok choy, however, had a different story to tell!

It was delicious! I dipped each bit in a wee bit of miso paste I made from this miso:

with a little tahini and lemon juice.  SO good. I’ve never tried miso before, either, so I was super pumped to find that I liked it.

Some of you have commented that I’ve been trying out lots of new things lately. Well, yes, yes I have. I don’t really have an explanation for it. Sometimes I just get bored, and need a little variety in mah life! I’m sure we all can relate 😀

I also finally got around to giving Niko a bath today. She’s getting groomed later this week, but I felt it just couldn’t wait.

She got in a little floor-rubbing-action before I took a blow dryer to her rat face 😀  IMG_4985

I had been having a weird feeling of anxiety all day (happens when I’m working on something important…or sometimes for no reason at all) but didn’t feel like working anymore, so when Hubski suggested cocktail hour and Wii bowling, I was so down.

IMG_4988 IMG_4989

Bloody Mary for the him.

Two-handed OJ for the her.

Watered down OJ (can’t stand the full taste,) rum, amaretto.

He totally killed it in bowling. All four games. Did about 20 strike dances. Hmph!

Right after he kicked my ass for the fourth game we finished our fourth game, my parents arrived!

We had plans to do a little shopping and get some good grub.

Oh, btw, Niko is crazy obsessed with my dad.

IMG_4994 IMG_4995

And I think the feeling is likewise 😉

We stopped by Von Maur, where I got a cute shirt, and two doubly cute mugs for some holidays coming up!

IMG_4996 IMG_4997 IMG_4998

I diee!! How cute are these mugs?! I couldn’t help it. Shane gets made because I’m such a mug collector. So to compromise I threw out two neglected Ikea ones 😉

Dinner was at the Olive Garden. We hadn’t been there in forever, but it’s our usual dining spot when the parental unit visits.

I forgot my camera, so behold some crappy iPhone pics:

Pinot and H2O.

Ravioli di Portabello…+ 1 bread…aaand now I’m stuffed.

Now it’s time to continue watching the Golden Globes. Glee just won best comedy/musical!! Hooray!!! 😀 I’m probably 80% watching just for Glee.

Are you watching the Golden Globes? What’s your favorite part of awards shows? The fashion, the bloopers, the presenters, the awards? I love seeing all the amazing fashion, but I typically only watch when I’m really, really rooting for someone/some group (Glee, case in point.)

Also…head on over to Katie’s blog for a shot to win your own Vitamix!

Have a wonderful end to your weekend and a great Monday morning. I just made my first batch of overnight oats for tomorrow morning. I haven’t hopped on the cold oats train, so I’ll let you know how that goes over tomorrow!

Happy New Year/Binary Day!

Hey everyone! Happy 2010! Happy New Year!

IMG_4528 IMG_4527

Happy 01-01-10, or as my husband, the techie, cleverly put it, Binary Day! (Since computers operate on 0’s and 1’s)

I won’t tell him if you’re rolling your eyes 😉

Did everyone have an awesome last day of 2009? Mine was great! Although I did have to work, I got off half day, and headed to the gym for my last workout of 2009, which was a 4 mile run in 39 minutes and then a quick leggy workout. Cheers to 2009 workouts, and may 2010’s be even bigger and better!

I was SO glad I made all the goodies/appies Thursday night, because I knew I would need to get in a nap if I was going to make it until midnight. So after lunch, I hit the sheets for about an hour and a half for a glorious and refreshing nappy.

Woke up, and then it was all about getting ready for the New Year’s Eve festivities:)

And as more friends showed up, more food magically appeared on the counter:

There were only three of us couples, but we had enough food to feed an army! Twas a feast, in deed.

After catching up and munching on the appetizers, it was time to go downstairs to the party room to start getting our celebration on!

The girls kicked off the celebration with a cinnamon applesauce shot:

Just a wee bit of a kick 😉

The rest of the night, I had one more shot and a couple vodka and orange juices:

My friend, Destiny, brought over her dachshund, Pocket, and while we partied downstairs, they played and played and played upstairs:

Around 10:00 we took a break from the festivities to eat an actual dinner. Destiny’s boyfriend, Steve, brought over all the fixings for tacos. We had chicken, shrimp, and veggie tacos for everyone. And before long, it was nearing midnight! You know what that means…time to put your party hat on! What what!

Thankfully, we actually did the count down to the right time zone this year! haha. And there’s no friends I’d want to ring it in with more! Love these people 🙂

We actually all made it to bed before 2:00, and woke up around 10 for breakfast, coffee, and the obligatory New Year’s Day mimosa:

While I did partake in a mimosa, my next drink wasn’t so fun. I don’t feel too hung over or anything, but to give myself a little perk me up, I made myself a drink that tasted worse than either of the shots I had last night: Amazing Grass + Water:

Blech!! It definitely needed a chaser…

Yes, I actually enjoy the taste kombucha enough for it to be a chaser 😉

Then Shane got around to making a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast. I’ve said it before, but the techie (hey I kinda like that name for him,) makes the best eggs evah.

To compliment the eggs, we had cinnamon raisin Ezekiel, and Millet toast:

What a delicious first meal of 2010 😀

All in all it was a fabulous night of friends, cards, dance parties, and blow horns to ring in the new year! Can’t wait to see what 2010 entails.

Here’s to 2010 being everything you hope for and more. Cheers!

The rest of the day is going to be spent getting my pictures from the cruise organized – everyone has been asking to see them, and I’ve been a lazy bum and have only uploaded them here on the bloggy –  and possibly hitting up a movie later. Hmm Up in the Air or It’s Complicated…

How did you reign in the new year? A relaxing night at home? A night out on the town? A little of both?

Paint the Cruise Ship Red

Hey, hey everyone! I wasn’t sure if I’d get to post this early on, but here I am! Woohoo!

Right now it’s about 2:00 in the afternoon, and we’re taking a break from the close, hot, sun. SPF is a godsend, but I’ve still gotta take a break from the sun every once in a while. I’m so excited the husband said we could get the pay-as-you go wifi! It’s 75 cents a minute, so I’m utilizing Live Writer as much as I can!

This morning we woke up way too early. Especially for going to sleep around 3:00 a.m. Yep, this party girl rocked it until the weee hours of the night! haha I don’t know when the last time I saw this time was – at the ripe age of almost 25, I’m just not the 21 year old I used to be 😉 But it was a blast – fun was had all night.

Let me rewind to yesterday morning.

Around 11:00 yesterday morning, we made the walk from our hotel in Tampa over to the cruise ship. Goooood bye, Tampa…

Hellloooo cruise ship!

Naturally, we were all starving when we got there, and although lunch was open, apparently everyone else was starving too, and not a single table was open. So instead we started with a liquid lunch, obviously.

IMG_2509 IMG_2510

What? I got my fruit in, see?! 😀

The umbrella pile.

A couple fruity drinks later, and we were told our rooms were ready. I was really surprised at the rooms – I had no clue what to expect. But the rooms totally look like they should be on a boat (don’t know why I didn’t think of that…lol) and they’re awesome!

IMG_2517 IMG_2519

IMG_2520 IMG_2523

   Bon Voyage land! IMG_2524 IMG_2526

After a little nap and boat exploring…IMG_2527

We hit up the night scene. We started out with a sit down dinner

I started out with the necessary glass of pinot, and then started out with a tropical fruit salad:IMG_2531

For my entree, I ordered a vegetarian Indian dish that was amazing! It was some kind of channa masala, with either paneer or tofu, along with some delicious dippers:

Honestly, one of the best Indian dishes I’ve ever eaten!

When the waiter came around with the dessert menu, we passed, and got coffee instead:

We had to be troopers! And so we trooped:

This was at one of the clubs, called Medusa’s Lair. It was a pretty cool place, but us four were the only ones in the club. It was pretty weird, but cool to have the club to ourselves.

IMG_2535 I like to pick statues noses 🙂

Today’s a whole day at sea, so we’ve been pretty relaxed all morning. So far, we’ve kicked it on the top deck:

Then we walked around to see what was going on around the ship. There’s seriously something going on every half hour. So much fun 😀

Finally, we realized we were hungry, so we hit up the lunch cafes.

Shane was on a mission to find a burger, and I had my eye on the salad bar. We were both successful:

And then next to the salad bar, was something much too interesting to pass up: pickled spaghetti squash with raisins and walnuts:

I was a little leery, but it ended up being amazing! I was pretty stuffed from my Hugh Jass salad, though, so I just had a couple bites. Until the husband brought this:

You know I can’t pass up key lime pie and strawberry short uhh mousse. Delish!

Check out this picture of a carved watermelon that was in the lunch cafe:

Doesn’t it look like a painting? So cool. I wanna learn how to do that haha.

Tonight’ll probably be lots of relaxing 😀 Actually, right now we’re passing hispanola (not that we can see it – everywhere ya look is deep blue sea) and we go to Grand Caymens tomorrow! Not sure I’ll be able to post tomorrow with all that excitement, but I have several awesome guest posts lined up for ya 😉

Hope everyone’s having a great Monday!

A Mood Funk

Oh what a night last night was! Part two of Saturday…didn’t go as planned I guess you could say. There was definitely mischief, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I was kinda in a funky mood.

BF Kim and her boy ended up coming over around 8:00 p.m. I wasn’t sure if they had eaten already, so I whipped up a couple snackie foods they could munch on a little.

Just some guac and a cheese ball topped with sweet jalepeno jam.

They loved it! However, they hadn’t eaten dinner, so we ordered a pizza anyway (which was consumed in its entirety by the night’s end :-o)

They are pretty big partiers, so the drinking began stat. At this time, I was still planning on going for a long run today (5 miles) so I took it easy. I had a beer and a vodka gimlet. Then we decided to take our little shindig public and hit up a couple bars.

The first bar was a lot of fun, where we played some darts and I had a gin and tonic. Kim and I got a double bulls eye!

After several games, everyone wanted to dance it up a little bit, so we hit up the next bar to cut a rug. This is where I wasn’t feeling it. I was the most sober of the gang, and just wasn’t into it for some reason. I should have just gotten over it, because it’s not too often that I get to go out with my girl, Kim. Alas, I just couldn’t shake my funky mood. We headed home not too much later, where the leftover aforementioned pizza was devoured. Kim’s boyfriend fried it up on the stove for us! I’ve never thought about heating it up that way. It was much quicker than cooking it the oven, and tasted awesome!

Shortly after pizza consumption, we all called it a night. This morning before they headed back home, we hit up a new-ish diner in town, Wild Berries, for a little breakfast. I had the garden omelet with a side of toast and fresh fruit. It was just what I needed.

And, you guessed it, a cup of joe!

The food was great, but the service was crap. Not only did we wait forever for our food, but when it came out, Kim’s grilled chicken salad was missing its chicken, and Shane’s pancakes came out syrup-less. Oh well – they were super packed and make mistakes like the rest of us.

Needless to say, my 5 mile run didn’t happen today. Oh well – not the end of the world! I’ll just hop on the treadmill after work tomorrow. So far Sundays aren’t working out so well to be my “long run days” LOL. I might end up doing a little elliptical and some legs later, since I don’t feel too bad.

Now I’m about to grab Niko and take her for a walk. The weather today is too great too miss!

I hope everyone had a good Saturday night!
