It Sounded Good at the Time…

Heyo 🙂

I made a poor judgment call of having a couple drinks last night, and now I’m up and about to run 10 miles. It sounded good and the time? Wheeeee!

Running fuel:

Actually I don’t feel too bad. I had three drinks – was chugging water as well, but still probably not the best decision on my part 😉

Apart from my early morning client, I had the day off yesterday. It didn’t really feel like I did much…

I blogged, I breakfasted, I went to the gym and rode the elliptical for 30 minutes after doing an upper body work out, I ran errands, I cleaned, I picked Niko up from the groomers, I read.

Errand fuel:        IMG_0593

And then it was 4:00 already!! Fridays always pass so quickly.

One of my errands was a trip to Fresh Market. Knowing that I’d be grocery shopping again tomorrow for next week’s meals, I went in to just buy the basics. Which is hard at this place:

Coffee is always a must, because well, nothing beats Fresh Market’s coffee. Apple chips are almost on the same level as chocolate covered banana chips – ‘nuff said. Okra because it’s one of the veggies Shane likes. Chocolate milk + organic sau-seech for the husband because he didn’t think it was very funny when I was at the store the other day and he asked me to pick up something tasty and I brought home tofu and canned pumpkin. What? I think it’s tasty… 😉

Quality control for the apple chips:

Yep, they pass! 😉

I took a break from cleaning for some cleaning fuel:

Don’t leftovers just rock? I must have been extra hungry yesterday, because this lunch was on the heavy side, and it barely filled me up!

Shane and I were tossing around ideas of what to do last night, when he mentioned his friend was going to stop by. A few hours later of dice games, [drinking] jeopardy and this lil lady was ready for bed! It’s fine.

And now I’m off to run 10 miles. I’ll report back to you how that goes, and if the mile number 10 is actually seen. At least I’ll be running with my friend, Amber for the first half! 🙂 That makes things better, right?

But before I go, how do you like Niko’s new ‘do?

Work iiiiit, Work it, Niko!

Ok, I’m late! I’m late!

Have a great Saturday, all!! 😀

I Can Save Your Life

Morning bloggies! You’re looking at a newly certified CPR/AED…er!

I can save yo life. More on that later 😀

Today is my last of the crazy days I have this week, that goes from 6:30 in the morning until 9:00 at night. I don’t know what I’ll do next week when I get home from work/gym and don’t have to go anywhere else! I have to say, as much as I wine, I don’t mind being busy, and I kind of work best in that environment. (I know I’ll come to regret that statement, btw ;))

Surprised at the ease of being Vegan for a Day on Tuesday, I was a little apprehensive about delving right back into dairy yesterday. Alas, the apprehension didn’t last, and I consumed some half and half in my coffee and this little gem of a cottage cheese snack:

Then blamed my cough/runny nose on it. Heh. The cottage cheese was actually very delicious! It didn’t have too much sweetness to it at all – a bonus in my opinion.

After chipping away at some work I need to have done by Thanksgiving, Shane and I went out for lunch to one of my favorite local restaurants for lunch, Skewers:

Skewers has amazing food at great prices, and is only about 5 minutes away from work.

We each started with a salad. Pretty good for a restaurant salad – not too much nutritionally devoid lettuce, so that’s a bonus. The house dressing was super yummy to boot!

For the entrée, I went with my ush – the avocado veggie burger. Mmm. They make it with fresh veggies and beans, and it’s the best veggie burger I’ve tasted probably.

The husband decided on a po boy sandwich. He cannot resist any type of po boy sandwich ever. Look how pretty it came out!

We got in and out and back to work in less than an hour, which was nice. However, whenever I go out for lunch, it’s always SO hard to make it back to work. Luckily, I didn’t stuff myself, so at least I had that advantage.

After work, I made a quick trip to el Fresh Market and Naturally Yours to pick up some essentials:

Plus some crackbucha, and some dinner

Brown rice sushi that about knocks my head off = a good way to take the edge off of a long Wednesday, because, directly after consuming, I jetted over to a local health care facility to take CPR/AED training!

Thankfully, there were two other girls who have very fun personalities at the class. Oh, and per husbands rules, I “didn’t go CPR-ing any mens (such a cheese)” and walked out certified for CPR/AED. Holla! I actually enjoyed the class, and take very seriously the concept of saving someone’s life through CPR. The class actually ended an hour short, which was fine with me because I had someone special waiting for me!!!!

I raced home, because my bestie, Destiny was there waiting for me!! Her train came in from Chicago around 7:30, and because I have an alright husband, he agreed to pick her up for me and take her to our house. I immediately opened a bottle of red to drink as we caught up:

Cheers to girlfriends!

I love this girl! Do you want to know why she’s a bestie? Well, THIS is why:

OK, and other reasons, like waking up at the ass-crack of dawn to watch me run my first 10K. She knows Shane and I are OBSESSED (as is she) with this TJ’s soup, so she brought some down from Chicago for us. She knows thy way to my heart. Haha..and I was just saying yesterday at work how awesome it’d be if she happened to bring some with her.

Destiny has also recently gotten into yoga a lot lately (she actually was the one who inspired me to pick it back up) and she gets yoga journals and mags, and brought me one 😀

IMG_2191 Thanks, love! Sadly, she was only able to stay for a short time before she had to head to her ma’s. No worries, though, a full-fledged girls’ night with her and another bestie, Kim, is being held on Friday 😀 And I can’t wait.

Other bloggie news:

  • Tomorrow is Vegan for a Day day!! For more information, visit Michelle or Katy’s blog. I am going to go ahead and do it again, because as I said, it was easier than I thought! Although, I’m not sure how easy it would be to be vegan every day, I’ll definitely give another day a go! It would take some hard work, dedication, and creativity – that’s for sure!

  • Katie, from Vita-Mix, emailed me about a contest Vita-Mix is hosting, called “Pitch Me!”image001

Veggies Give you Wings!

Happy Friday, Bloggy Friends!! 😀 My Friday has buzzed by, as it always does, but I’ve got a lot done so far.

Lately I’ve been noticing I haven’t been getting as many veggies in my diet as I should be, so I’m making eating vegetables a priority. Additionally, I feel as though I get way too much sugar in my daily diet. If you take a look at a typical day of eats, nearly all of my snacks are sweet rather than savory, same with breakfast, and most of the time with lunch. If I incoporate more veggies, I’ll bet it will make my sugar stats plummet:) And I really think having too much sugar yesterday made my run go to the pot. Although, I bet if anyone could sweeten up veggies, it’d be me. Mmm carrot cake anyone? Kidding, kidding 😉

With that said, I woke up today and made a delicious green monster!!

It contained:

  • spinach
  • Greens + Superfood
  • 1 organic carrot
  • half a frozen banana
  • ice, water

It was scrumptious! I found this combination staved off my hunger longer than my typical green monsters do for some reason. I didn’t even mosey on over to the cafeteria at work until 8:30! Usually I’m there and eating by 7:30 😀

And instead of my usual sweet bowl of cereal or oats, I opted for a veggie omelet!

Along side was a piece of whole wheat toast with strawberry preserves.

The omelet was made with All-Eggs, mushrooms, onions, tomatos, green pepper and cheese. It was sooo good, and whatdya know? Kept me fuller longer!

I did end up having a snack around 10:45 before I left for the day. I had a facial afterward, and didn’t want my tummy grumbling while I was trying to pass out relax. So I had a bowl of 0% fage with blueberries, and a vitamuffin top!

I used this Vita Top, which was SO much better than the chocolate peanut butter fudge one I had yesterday.

I really, really liked this flavor. Hopefully I can find them somewhere around here soon!!

My facial was amaaazing. It was an Aveda Relaxing Facial, and my salon has a special on them this month by giving their customers %20 off. Since I can’t refuse a bargain, when my hair stylist asked me, I said, “signb me up!” It was pretty much the shiz. Afterward, I took my clean (and bare) face to Fresh Market to get next week’s groceries:

I’ve done a total 180 on saying I wouldn’t buy produce here. It really isn’t more expensive, and it’s SO fresh, and doesn’t all come from Mexico.

Then I had to make a pit-stop at Kroger to get a couple staple items that I knew for sure would be more expensive at FM, like zip lock bags and a couple other items.

Continuing my quest for increasing my veggie quota, I set out to make a veggie-filled lunch.

It started with some homemade hummus, layered with spinach and tomatoes, sprouts, cucumbers, and avocado:

In a wrap, of course!

It was a wee too big for the wrap, but don’t you worry, I managed just fine 😉

Along side was a sliced Pink Lady apple with some Barney Butter:

But the Barney Butter wasn’t what I chose at first. I was going to eat the Cinnamon Swirl Peanut Butter first:

But…The Barney Butter had 6 less grams of sugar, so I opted for that. Plus, with apples, you really don’t need flavored nut butters in my opinion.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to become some sugar gram counting freak 😉 I’ve just noticed it’s something I need to pay attention to a little more, and if it’s affecting my running and energy levels, it needs to be a priority.

Speaking of running, I’m so pumped for my race tomorrow morning!! My dad’s going to be in Morton tonight, so he’s picking my packet up for me and meeting me at the race tomorrow. I have an all out fan club that will be rooting me on! My mom, dad, hubski, BFF, and BFF’s mom are coming. And, the race is at 7:30 a.m!! These are some pretty special people I have in my life 😉

Tonight I’m going out to dinner with thte girls for one their birthdays at a place called, Biaggi’s, then I’m coming straight home to prep for the morning, so there might not be another post before the race. We’ll see though – I love writing out all my thoughts and nerves to you guys before a good race!!

I hope all of you have an awesome Friday night!

Do you feel like you get “too much” of something in your day-to-day eats?

What are your plans for the night?

My First Zumba Experience!

Hi guys! Wow what a jam packed Friday! And it as even my half day today at work! It was jam-packed with fun-ness though:D
After work I decided Niko needed a little spiffing up, so I took her to the groomers. Poor little girl was shaking like a leaf 😦 No matter which groomer I bring her to, it seems like they never treat her well enough. Then again, no one’s good enough for my little Nikster 😉 I came to get her a little early and they were just finishing up.

The finished product:

AWWWWWW. Daddy was sure to have the bows out in no time 😉 He wants Niko to be a tom-boy, haha.

While she was getting prettified, I was out spending teh moneyz. First I just had to go to the Naturally Yours health food store to use my newly realized employee discount. But that only took up about 30 minutes. So I headed into Borders and looked at a couple cook books:

I have an obsession with Alton, and I really want this book in the future. I like him so much I left an Operation Beautiful note in it, and then left it out on a table in hopes that someone would open it up and see it today:

Then…I did it! I bought the cook book I’ve been wanting for-ev-er!

I was going to wait, and get it on Amazon for cheaper than $28, but I managed to sweet talk the cashier into giving me a 30% discount 😉 Score!! I think it was my karma payback from leaving an OB note, heheh
Naturally, I went next door to Fresh Market to pick up ingredients for two meals I want to make from the book this weekend. And I did what I said I wouldn’t do yesterday:

I bought over-priced produce from FM. But it was all organic!! I also found another unicorn!

I had actually gotten in line, having given up on finding them, and then I spotted them in the lady ahead of me in line’s cart. Obviously, I said, “Where did you find those Flat Out wraps?!” She then pointed me in the right direction, and I got out of line to grab them up. Can’t wait to try ’em!

I love that all their meat is all-natural or organic. Buying sketchie meat makes me nervous.
After a short nap, it was time to ZUMBA it up!!! I met my friend at the gym and there were SO many people that attended. The energy was awesome, and the cause was even better. They had raised so much money for Ovarian Cancer before I left – and there was still an hour to go then!
I zumba’d for about an hour before I had to go. Honestly, I wasn’t prepared for it to be such a work out! I wore my Polar F6 HRM just because I was curious, and let me tell you, zumba burns some serious calories when you get into it! I think it said I had burned about 390 in 45 minutes? I’m not quite sure..but it was up there. They had all of their instructors take turns, too, so it was neat seeing all of their personalities. I really liked the ones who got into the most and looked like they were having a blast. It pumped me up!
Pre Zuma fuel:

Then it was off to BUNCO, where I brought the aforementioned birthday cookies. No, unfortunately I can’t say I made them (I wish I did!!) I bought them from a local bakery that is famous in this town for its sweets – Grove Street Bakery.
Bunco was a ball as usual. The group of girls I play with are simply great. And good news!! I won money!! Ten dollas, baby! I haven’t won yet in 2009, so maybe it’ll be a winning streak 😉 It’s $5 to play, so I won $5 for the most “baby buncos.” If you have never played bunco, you should seriously get a group together to play! Has anyone never heard of it?

And after ALL of that stuff, this post also serves as a Race Eve post. Yep, tomorrow morning I’m running a 5K! And it’s in a city 45 minutes way at 8:00 a.m. I forsee a nap in my future tomorrow. Ok…must go to bed. Good night, all 😀

Do you have a scheduled “girls night” every month/week? What do you get together and do?

Fresh Market

Hi guys! Happy it’s-already-Thursday 🙂 I hope your week’s going well!

Well, the muffins I brought to the office were a hit! I didn’t say anything to anyone about them being healthy except for one person. He’s on weight watchers, and was sulking because he couldn’t have any of the food anyone brought it (trust me, everything but the muffins were absolutely sinful!) I let on to him that he could have a muffin, so he grabbed one up 🙂

THIS is what I had:

hoooooooly yum. It’s a blackberry rhubarb bar from Great Harvest Bread Company that the birthday girl herself brought in 🙂 It’s was pure heaven in a bar.

Work was work. I did manage to sneak in an Amazing Grass Peanutbutter Chocolate Bar after lunch:

Verdict: it was pretty good! I was hesitant when I opened it and saw a chocolate coating – usually that has been a sign that the bar tastes artificial in my experience. However, when I took my first bite, I was pleasantly surprised! I was also pleasantly surprised to see…

It was green on the inside! It had 10 grams of protein and the same ingredients the amazing meal powder has in it, so that was pretty impressive 🙂 All in all, I’d most likely buy it if I saw it in a store, and it’s better than a lot of other protein bars I’ve tried.

Work ended up being pretty busy again, so I was glad to get out of there!

However, I’m very proud to say that I went straight to the gym to pound out a personal time record! I ran a 5k in a sub 9 minute mile pace! I finished at 27:09! I’ve never run a 5k this fast. Hopefully I’ll be able to run this fast (or faster in Saturday’s 5k.) My HR was pretty up there though… Average HR was 172 and max was 188. Yikes! Tomorrow’s workout will be elliptical and then I’ll rest Friday for Saturday’s race.

Directly after leaving the gym I went to:

!!!!!! Today was the first day it opened, and it was nuts in there! I wanted to go over lunch, but had an impromptu meeting, blech. But oh my, this store will be the death of me my wallet.

I loved it! And I pretty much squeeled when I saw my own personal unicorn:

BARNEY BUTTER! I’ve searched high and low for this stuff, and haven’t been able to find it annnywhere. But, I found it! Here! Wahoo!! I’m trying it with bananas on hemp bread for lunch today. Can’t wait.

Other goods:

If that’s not a big container of greek yogurt…

I don’t think I’ll be buying produce here, as it was pretty expensive. However, I will definitely be buying specialty items here. They also had an awesome meat and seafood section!

Oh, and they also had a make-your-own-almond butter station, which I thought was just the best thing ever!

Dinner was on the run. Shane wanted take out (though I was tempted to pick up some sushi from FM) so I stopped at Moe’s on the way home.

I got the the Close Talker with tofu and guac:

Mmm mm! So tastaayy!

Question: What’s your favorite health food store? (TJ’s, WF’s, FM, local health food stores, etc)
