LuLu, Trip to my Lu

Happy Thanksgiving week! I’m super pumped, because my work week only goes to Wednesday, and each word day is an hour shorter for me! The only thing is, I have a deadline at work of Wednesday at 3:00, so I’ll be working as hard as I can to get everything done by then.

Yesterday I woke up with an insane craving to drive to Oakbrook to go to their Lululemon. As I said yesterday, I found out our cruise ship has aerobics classes and a gym, so naturally, I wanted to buy new work out clothes for it 😉 I finally convinced my mom to ride along with me to keep me company for the 1 hr 45 minute drive 😀 Woo hoo! (I can’t stand driving, let alone driving by myself, btw – random tidbit.)

I wanted to get in a 5 mile run, so soon after I finished my breakfast, I was out the door for a beautifully quick five miles. I haven’t had a good 5+ mile run in a while – I’ve always come back tired and not feeling great, but I felt like I zipped through this one! Maybe it was the nice weather we were having, or perhaps it was the thoughts of Lululemons dancing in my head…

Anyway, I came home, showered, and got lunch and snacks packed before my mom got to my house.

Two veggie sandwiches – one with pesto, one with hummus:IMG_2248 IMG_2249 IMG_2250 Bars, V chips, and snack mixes:

IMG_2251 We ended up eating everything except the bars!

And we’re off:

IMG_2252

Per usual, I found and wanted about everything in the store:

IMG_2253

But then finally narrowed it down…

IMG_2254 Weellll…kind of narrowed it down 😉 IMG_2257 IMG_2262

And then since I found out there was a Trader Joes about four miles down the road and on our way home, of course I had to stop:

IMG_2260    TJ goodies!!! Plus some meatless balls, European yogurt, and a TJ insulated bag.

We got home at a decent hour, which was good, because I had a birthday dinner to attend to! My friend’s birthday was this weekend, and we celebrated by going to Flat Top. Speaking of which, I haven’t been to Flat Top in for-ev-er, but I kinda am obsessed with it after last night!! Hellloo options for vegetarians!! Anyway, it ended up being a double celebration, because said-friend’s boyfriend proposed to her Saturday night!!! 😀 She was so cute and giddy, haha.

Well now it’s off to make that dough for a while! Have a great start to your Thanksgiving week!

When you go on vacation, do you feel compelled to buy new clothes for it?? It’s horrible, but I always do!! haha

Besties, Balls, and Baking

Gooood morning RAN readers! 😀 I’m so happy the weekend is here and that next week is only a three day week! Such a good feeling. I hope all of you are having a good Saturday as well. This post will be a semi-short one, because in a few hours, we’re having an early Thanksgiving dinner at my aunt’s house. Hooray!

I’m currently blogging from my parent’s kitchen table where I’m eating fresh fruit, rye bread, and almond butter:

IMG_2224

Can’t beat that!

Yesterday was a crazy, but super fun, day. I worked until mid morning, headed to the gym, and ran for 3.5 miles, and then did upper body:

· Biceps with the cable machine

· Triceps with cable machine

· Lat pull downs with cable machine

· Chest press w/ 15 lb dumbbells

Feeling rejuvenated, I headed over the Naturally Yours to pick up yet another Kombucha (I need to wean myself off for a while – these puppies are expensive!) and finally found some nutritional yeast!!

IMG_2236

I plan on making Averie’s vegan peanut butter cups when I finish this post to bring to my aunt’s 😉

I also did a little baking, or un-baking, rather, for another dessert to bring to the table – Angela’s balls of course! The balls were a big hit with the fam the last time I made them, and they were actually a request from them – “Hey Paige, make those balls again, would ya!!” mahaha. I’m so immature.

IMG_2212IMG_2214

While the chocolate chips and dough cooled, I made this scrumptious pesto and veggie sandwhich:

IMG_2215

Pesto, avocado, red bell pepper, spinach, portabella mushroom. Delicious.

I had a girls’ night planned in my hometown, plus my mom wanted me to show her how to make my guacamole, so I carted the ingredients to my parents’ house, and finished making them there:

IMG_2220IMG_2219

How glorious did they turn out? Unfortunately the flake form of unsweetened coconut isn’t sticky enough. Ohhh well!

Then it was guacamole time! I made the guac with my mom, and then had the parents sample it. They were in LOVE. In fact, I caught my mom licking the bowl! LOL

IMG_2218

She tried to dive to the ground when she saw me with my camera. She failed. Muahaha.

Finished product:

And other goodies we are bringing over to my aunt’s house today:

IMG_2231IMG_2229IMG_2228

Yay for fruits and veggies😀 We have a big ol’ tub of Sabra to go with the veggies from Sam’s. Delux size, baby!!

Oh, yes, and I cannot forget the most important thing we bring:

IMG_2226

A case of champagne, baby! Yes, my family’s family events pretty much center around this sweet nectar from the gods… bahaha

After we cut up fruit, made balls, and mixed guac, the parental unit wanted to give Niko an early Christmas present. It’s getting very cold here in Illinois, so it was only appropriate. Let me present to you, little bear eskimo, Niko

IMG_2232HOW ADORABLE?! Except, then when we put her on the floor, she kind of turned into catatonic dog… lol I’m not sure she’s a big fan of the hood.

IMG_2234

Sure was warm, though 😉

Then it was off to my girl, Kim’s house. First we busted open a bottle of this vino…

IMG_2238

Cute bottle, no? It was super delicious, too! Sometimes the bottle draws me in, and then it tastes like feet. Anyway, we drank a glass, and headed out to the OG (Olive Garden.)

There was a small wait, so we headed to the bar for some wine sampling:

IMG_2223

Cheers, friends! Right after looking at this picture, we all agreed how adult-like we look! Yikes! We’ve been BFF’s since high school.

After stuffing our faces, we came home, drank a little more wine, had a dance party 2009 in Kim’s living room, and got attacked played with her adorable cat, Twix.

IMG_2222   She’s cute right? Don’t let her good looks fool you!! mahah

Well I’m off to tackle my big to do list before heading to Aunt Kim’s! I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

Do you still keep in contact with your best friends from high school? I don’t think I’ll ever grow apart from these girls.

Spoil Me Rotten

Hey party people! I had a wonderfully spoiled day. After work, I ventured to the Work Out Company and ran an easy three miles before I did some tricep, shoulder, and chest work. It was a glorious gym sesh – just what I needed. I had to make it semi-quick, because I had to head to my hometown for a girls day with my madre followed by a girls night with my hometown girlfriends!

When I got home my mom treated me to a fabulous manicure and pedicure!

IMG_0841

I opted for the vampy dark look, seeing as it’s freezing and gray here in Illinois. It was every bit of relaxing as I anticipated, too! I kept saying, "I feel so pretty!" haha Typically I’ll get a pedicure every month on the dot (the very girly side of me) but this month I think it’s been 5 or 6 weeks, so my feet were looking rather mangy. How’s that for a descriptive word?

Afterward, my mom had to get some groceries, so I very willingly tagged along and scored some goodies for myself 😀

IMG_0844

Plus some hummus, Amy’s burritos, and spinach in the fridge. Holler! 🙂 They had a wicked sale on bars, so I stocked up on a good variety. I’ve never had the Clif Mojo or Z bars, so I’m excited to try ‘em out!

Then we came home, unloaded the groceries, and my ma got started on dinner:

IMG_0845

It was really good. She made sweet potatoes, baked chicken, and gorgonzola pasta:

IMG_0846

The pasta dish is whole wheat pasta with gorgonzola, tomatoes, olive oil, and broccoli – SO good. And so easy! Genius:) I definitely had seconds.

See why I feel so spoiled now? It’s great coming home 😀 Not to mention, I get to see my awesome fam!

Then it was off to my girl, Mel’s house for girl’s night! I haven’t seen these girls in forever, so it was so nice seeing everyone! We drank a little wine and played a view games like Apples to Apples and Categories I Think it’s called? The game you pass around and it gives you a word your trying to guess (kind of like I’m doing right now! LOL) It’s funny, because these girls were my friends from back in the day, and we used to get in so much trouble together – the rebels we were, and now half of us are married, and most on our way there, and then there’s even a few with babies! So instead of bar hopping or partying all night, we now spend a quiet night in drinking wine and playing games. Oh…growing up 🙂 haha There really is a big difference between 19 and 25. I can’t remember the last time I saw 3 or 4 a.m. except to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night – bahaha.

Eats

Besides the yummy home-cooked dinner, and a couple cookies had over at Mel’s, I had…

Green Monster with a special guest of a frozen peach:

IMG_0837

Some hemp bread with black cherry jam and Barney butter:

IMG_0836

Oatmeal:

IMG_0839

This was actually a new variation. I still had a banana and peanut butter in there, but I also added some of my pumpkin tofu mousse for some sweetness and a wee bit of egg whites for a protein boost 😀

Raspberries:

IMG_0842

And of course, a cocktail, because that’s how we roll in this house!

        IMG_0848

Yes, my parents own a kegerator. And it’s glorious.

Catchya on the flipside, homeslices!

How often do you get to go back to your hometown? As much as you’d like?
