The Only Option We Have Right Now

I did it. I convinced my parents that pizza was a far more attractive choice than Mexican when they came up just to see me to give me back my dog last night.

But how can you turn down Lucca’s Pizza? It’s sinful, and there’s no need to be sinful on a Sunday now is there.

I still felt like a zombie from getting close to no sleep the night before, so I’m not sure I was much fun company, but I do know that the pizza was right on par!

Loads of veggies!

To drink, I had about 5 refills of a large glass of water.

Stuffed, I came home, we said out goodbyes, and I proceeded to pass out on the couch while watching another episode of 24. It’s getting highly amusing how Jack Bauer can literally get anyone to do anything.

I wish I had those persuasive abilities. Me: “Husband, we need to get a Vitamix, NOW. It’s imperative to the state of the smoothie. It’s the only option we have right now.” Husband: *sigh* “you’re right.”

After a solid eight hours of sleep, I woke up this morning STILL feeling like I’d been hit by a truck! So I slept another half hour, rolled out of bed, drank some coffee, and nibbled on some pre-running fuel:

Oh, TJ’s dried mangos. How I’ve missed you so.

Now, I definitely debated while I took Niko on her morning walk on whether I should go for  my planned 4 mile run or not. My body said ehhh probably not a good idea, but my heart said there’s no other option available (Jack Bauer-style, of course.) So I headed out, telling myself not to push it, and to take walk breaks if I needed them.

The run actually made me feel much better, and I ended up running 4.25 miles in 38:47 😀 About a 9:08 average pace.

Usually after a run, I crave waffles or oatmeal, but today I wanted nothing more than a big, fresh, icy cold green grey (?) monster

It was the only available option 😉

Well I’m off to get a bit of work done, get my study on, and train a client! Hope you guys have a lovely Monday!

Meta Writing

It’s a technical term. I technically made it up in my head 😉

Hi guys! How ya doin on this fine Tuesday night? I decided to post tonight instead of tomorrow morning, because if I went with the latter, I’m not sure there would be a post to publish. Tomorrow is an endurance day. By that, I mean I’ll be working sunup to sundown. Hardcore.

This morning I had to get in a supah quick run. I’d planned on running a three mile interval run, sprinting for .2 miles and jogging for .1 miles for 3 miles total. Kinda like reverse HIIT. That’s a technical term too 😉 After realizing that I pressed snooze two too many times and I didn’t want to be caught running around the house yelling, “sh!t! I’m late!! Crap!!” I cut it down to 2.5 miles. Actually…who am I kidding, I still ran out the door saying those exact words, but that’s neither here nor there.

Post-run breakfast:

One bigass whole wheat protein waffle with the usual toppings. Guys, this stuffed me to the brim. I didn’t have time to pack a lunch for work, but that’s OK. This held me for five hours until I meandered down to the cafeteria to grab an apple and a banana to eat with a handful of almonds. I just didn’t want anything heavy.

Before heading home, I munched on a chocolate brownie Lara Bar. Lara Bar really hit the mark when concocting these flavors. This was pure excellence. Still rating the cookie dough flavor numero uno out of the ones I’ve had so far (Carrot Cake and the Brownie) but this one falls closely behind. So good, with no artificial-tasting flavor.

I told you guys how I’ve been STARVED lately and just end up making whatever I can get my hands on for dinner, so I played it safe today and made a Green Monster to hold off the hunger beast within.

IMG_0059 It provided some energy to help the hubsky plant the veggies one of my clients gave me!

Sweet peppers, hot peppers, and tomatoes. Grow baby, groooowwww 🙂

Later the husband finally mentioned the word dinner and I was chopping veggies in five seconds flat.

It was a grill night, which meant all I had to do was chop and season the veggies. Perfect.

Mound o’ veggies.IMG_0066

Had them with grilled potatoes, a veggie burger, and a glass of red vino. Totally delicious and nutritious.

Dessert was my book, the patio, and my dog. The ultimate summer evening can be considered a dessert, m’friends.

Mental Stories

Today I realized how much I “write” stuff in my head. Whether it’s for the blog or for another project I’m working on, when I have time to be idle and not concentrating on something, my mind always goes into writing mode. By this I mean, I was writing this post in my head on my walk from the BIC building to my car. As I was planting the plants, and as I was waiting for the husband to talk about dinner (I’m hungry, damnit! 😛 )

Writers (we’ve all got a little writer in us!) do you have a writing dialogue going on in your head when you’re not concentrating on a task at hand? – or while you are…I’ll take a side of ADD with my inner dialogue 😛 Like I said, I do! Sometimes I get so deep in thought that I almost have to shake myself out of it LOL. And I actually thought about this question while mentally writing. What is that, meta mental writing? LOL

Have a fabulous night, everyone, and an even better hump day! See you Thursday morning, and don’t forget to enter my New Flavors of Lara Bar giveaway! 🙂

Revisiting an Old Friend

G’morning! How’d everyone’s start to your week go? Did you get yesterday off for the holiday?

Mondays are usually pretty light for me anyway, but I had two clients cancel on me, so I helped Shane a lot on reorganizing the office. We definitely have a simple style as far as design and organization goes, so whenever we can pare down something we do!

It was pretty nostalgic going through the others. I found a ton of old news paper articles I’d written in college and a few papers from then too. Oh, deadlines 🙂

When we finished, we met my parents for a little Mexican fiesta.IMG_0001

No surprises here, I got some veggie fajitas.

Same ol’ same ol, but oh so delish.

After I stuffed myself silly with veggies, I thought a nice neighborhood walk with Niko would help things settle. Except I had to fight Clarabelle off for the leash!

Heh little trickster. She kept grabbing the end of the leash every time Niko walked. Niko was not amused 😉 We were though, obviously!

I’m currently revisiting an old friend -a delicious, refreshing green monster for breakfast!

It’s warm and muggy this week and nothing hot for breakfast sounded good.

In addition to it being warm and muggy, for a change I didn’t workout right when I woke up this morning. I usually do, and it gets my metabolism revving for a big breakfast. But last night I tossed and turned until about midnight, and when my alarm blasted this morning I immediately made the executive decision that sleep trumped morning workouts, and moved it to tonight. Sleep is so important, guys!

I hope everyone has a delightful day! I’ve got a few nerves in my tummy because I have to call the doctor’s office to get the results from the bloodwork I did yesterday. Nothing major, but anything with doctors, blood, and waiting makes me a nervous Nelly (did I just say nervous Nelly? lol)

Gooooood morning! How’s everyone doing on this fine Tuesday?

Still catching up from the weekend? I went on a cute date and lost my camera and then found my camera and visited a beautiful winery!

Yesterday started out early, as most Mondays do. I had an early morning client to train, and then went on a long (relatively) run.

Pre session and run, I had 3/4 of a banana with PB:

To make my banana “buns” I just slice out a section of the banana length-wise, as shown above. It makes a fun little split! I took the other portion of the banana + PB and stuck it in the freezer. I had post-workout plans for that part of the banana.

My plan for the run was to maintain a pace between 9:30 and 10:00 for seven miles. It’s crazy. Every time I looked down at my Garmin, it was either super fast, like 8:39 or slow, like 10:10. Never where I wanted it to be. But somehow, magically when I finished, my average pace was spot on at 9:45. LOL

Post workout deliciousness:

Cold bananas and PB! Angela talked about eating this as a post-run snack, and it sounded genius and I had to try it. It was delightful! I ate it alongside a nectarine:

And then had a green monster protein smoothie to go along with.IMG_7913 So filling!

After working on some desk stuff, I headed to train my next client. I never thought I’d be hungry again after that green monster, but low and behold, my tummy started rumbling shortly after noon. Luckily, I had Indian leftovers from the night before!

Mmmmm. Dal might be my new fave.

And for dessert, my weight in watermelon.

I may or may not have finished all but one piece!

The rest of the day, I moved my office to the kitchen table, and plugged away. A very productive day, and I got to hang out with the pets! (They’re not allowed upstairs)

  IMG_7923 Snacks:

Trail mix from my $13 bag of Fresh Market mix. No, literally it was $13.

Later I prepared dinner before going to my last client’s house for the day to do some BOSU training with her. It was a blast. I love BOSU training. 😀 Great way to mix it up.

Dinner was entirely delicious.

I made some sweet corn and fresh green beans before I left

And marinated some tofu for while I was gone. Then once home, I heated the veggies, baked the tofu, and stuck a crusty rosemary and sea salt roll in the oven.

Anything better than melted butter on a crusty, white, dense roll?

I usually stick with whole grains, but sometimes ya just need a little white bread in your life. Agree?

Well I’m off to continue getting ready for work. It’s my loooong day today. I have to split up my exercise today. This morning I did a full body weights session, but I need to get in a run too. I hate splitting up my workouts because that means two showers, but every now and then I don’t mind.

Do you ever split up your workouts into two throughout the day? I like to get it all done in one session, like I said above 🙂

Ciao! Have a terrific Tuesday, all!

Held in Contempt of Car Dealership

Good morning  afternoon, dah-lings! I just got back from a 10 miler on the dreadmill. It was pouring when I woke up, and I had a 12 miler on the training plan (half marathon is this Saturday – !!!!) so I compromised with a 10 on the treadmill. I watched the entire movie, Law Abiding Citizen, which will undoubtedly give me nightmares, but was good nonetheless.

The 10 miles passed by surprisingly quickly. Before I knew it, there was just 3 miles left, and the I finished the ten in 1:37:53

What 10 miles on a treadmill looks like:

Be glad you can’t smell the internet 😉

Pre-run breakkie:

Just Flat Out wrap with a smushed nanner and some PB & Co. Cinnamon Raisin PB in it.

So good, so simple!

Post-run luncheroni:

A Mediterranean scramble on some whole wheat toast – included were 2 eggs, 2 egg whites, artichoke hearts, kamalata olives, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, and goat cheese.

Oh, and hot sauce 🙂 YUM!

Man…I have quite the story for you guys.

So in light of recent changes and realizations, my husband, has been planning on selling his mistress beloved BMW:

I believe he wept a little on the inside.

He has been researching trucks, and found “the one” on Friday night. When I get home from my last training appointment that night, he said he’d planned on driving up to Elgin, Illinois (almost three hours north) on Saturday to get it. I volunteered to push back my long run to today and go along with him after my Saturday morning clients.

So before I headed out the door to train on Saturday morning, I had a lovely quick breakfast:

A toasted Ezekiel muffin with organic strawberry jam on one half and a carob powder/banana/AB sauce on the other half. Deeeelicious 🙂

Trained a bit, came home, and made up some “driving fuel” aka a Green Monster”

Just the basics – ice, 1 frozen banana, 1/2 scoop protein powder, almond milk, and a bunch of spinach.

And we were off!

It was kind of a long drive, so we stopped to have some lunch:

hahah kidding, we didn’t have lunch here, but I thought it would be a fun photo op 😉

We really just made a quick pit stop at Subway since we didn’t want to be gone all day long…little did we know then…

I ate about half, and eventually had to throw the other half out (I’ll explain later)

So we finally got to the HUGE dealership around 2:45 and started haggling. Both Shane and I hate this part of car shopping. But after about 4 counter offers, we caved and signed all the papers. Done and Done two hours later. Or so we thought…

We waited. And waited. And WAITED. Two hours had passed and it was almost SEVEN o clock. That’s FOUR hours after we arrived. The finance guy was back logged they said. We told him we had to drive three hours south after this and had a dog to let out. They couldn’t have cared any less. EVERY single manager was as rude as could be.

Oh! but around 7:00, we got free pizza for our patience…

another snackie:

The hubski got so mad he raised his voice and said a few choice words to one of the managers who completely ignored us when we asked about how much longer it would be. Oh, and this was around 8:30. Then 9:00 rolled around…we’d been there six hours.

By this time we were so slap happy from staring at the same four walls and hearing the same music over and over again that we couldn’t stop laughing LOL.

Our “Honda faces”

IMG_0010 IMG_0011

LOL – about to go insane!

FINALLY around 9:30, we went back to sign the finance papers.

Shane told the only couple waiting after us that we had just posted bail and we were free bahaha

Seriously it was the worst car buying experience ever. We really didn’t have any options. We had sold our car, and couldn’t take the new car because of liability purposes. And apparently we couldn’t take a rental car because they couldn’t find any plates. I call BS but whatever.

We rolllled on into our house around 1:00 in the morning, and needless to say CRASHED.

hehehe. It was very disturbing, but hey, it’s a story to tell. The Honda behind it all…

Well loves, I have a pretty busy day ahead so I better get crack a lackin! I’m working on a new flyer/poster advertising my personal training services to post around the gym. Right now mine are just made from Word…time to get fancy schmancy up in here! 😉

What’s the worst waiting experience you’ve had? It could be at a car dealership, an airport, the store, whatever!

A Quarter of a Century Old

Hi guys! Welp, I’ve officially joined the quarter of a century club. The big 2-5 was yesterday.
Sorry I skipped on posting yesterday, but I was busy celebratin-g!

Speaking of celebrating, I have LOTS of shenanigans to tell ya’ll about. Grab a snack and your kombucha of choice, because I got a lot of writing ahead.

It started on Friday when I was done with work (which was a looong afternoon!) I grabbed the hubski and we headed out to meet some friends at Gill St. Bar:

It was one of my friend’s birthday, too. So we celebrated with a beer with her. But we didn’t stay long, because we had some plans…

Like going to the (only!) vegan restaurant in town!

The Coffeehouse!
This is in the Uptown section of town, very close to the university.

I used to walk down this street ALL the time to go to different shops (and perhaps a few pubs ;)) when at ISU. Memories…

However, for some crazy reason, I’d never been the Coffeehouse – this was my first time!
It’s very eclectic, and had such a variety of patrons. I felt I could be very much myself here.
We found a quaint little table in the back and looked at the menu.

It was SO hard for me to choose, but I ended up going with the…

Falafel pita:

and a hummus plate…

and oven fries…

ok well we shared those two 😉
The hubski got some vegan chili:

And EVERYTHING was delicious. They also had vegan baked goods:

But that’s for another trip 😉 I wanted to go back for lunch yesterday LOL. Oh but I will be back, for sure. The prices are amazing and so is the food!

Perfect birthday Eve dinner 😀

Came home and it was relaxation time. I almost decided to had a glass of wine, but I had my 10 (!!) mile run planned the next day, so I went with some tea instead. Yes, I ran 10 miles on my birthday. It sounded good up until the night before. Then, I thought, why? why would I plan a 10 mile run on my birthday?!

The Looming 10 Mile Run

I woke up feeling the same way, but there was no way out of it. It was mid forties and sunny, but windy, and damnit I was gonna do it.
Cooked up some breakfast for a little fuelage:

Banana oats w/ raw almond butter and organic jam!

And a few hours later, I was getting ready to head out to the trail.
This little guy helped me get some motivation:

One of Shane’s birthday presents to me:D
And while we’re on the subject, he also got me a BOSU trainer:

and a (pink!!) golf bag!

However, I think the golf bag and set is partly a present to him. He’s been asking me to play golf with him forever. I guess this is the summer! haha We’re not an active couple or anything… 😉

I was so excited to use my CamelBak on my run. I filled it with about a liter of water, and also stowed some Clif shot bloks and my car key in it:

Ready, Set, GO!

I ran on the trail because I knew the trees would help block out the wind. And boy I’m glad I did, because the wind was a-howwwling! The first couple miles I was kind of a downer and the number 10 just kept intimidating me. But by mile 3, I had gotten past my 2-mile-hump and had a good groove going. And around mile 5, I saw a sign for the David Davis Mansion (the house Abe Lincoln lived in when he lived in Bloomington) so I ran around the circle drive of the mansion. It was super cool – I had never been there before either. I wish I would have brought my camera. Next time I’ll remember to do so 🙂 Around mile 6, I remembered why I saved my 10 miler for my birthday (or it just so happened to be on my birthday, but I digress..) I was elated! Breaking a record and enjoying nature. Love, love, love it.
Around mile 7, I got a really bad cramp in my right calf, and stopped to stretch, ate three shot bloks, and then kept on going. Though the cramp didn’t go away, it faded a little. However it’s definitely painin’ today. I had a 4.5 mile recovery run planned for today, but I think I’m going to take it easy. Plus, I may or may not have a slight hangover, as well. What? You can’t judge a girl for having a few brewski’s on her birthday! More on that below… 😉

Ended up finishing in 1:37:03 with an average pace on 9:42

My Splits:

Mile 1: 9:44
Mile 2: 9:44
Mile 3: 9:53
Mile 4: 10:00
Mile 5: 9:57
Mile 6: 9:14
Mile 7: 9:47
Mile 8: 9:41
Mile 9: 9:41
Mile 10: 9:23

10 miles, baby!!!

Phew! I was glad I kept my average pace under 10 minutes, but I wasn’t as speedy as last week’s long run. Next week is 10 again, so we’ll see if the pace changes then.

Directly after showering, dressing, and green monstering:

1/2 banana, ice, almond milk, Amazing Grass, frozen cherries, hemp protein powder
I headed out with the hubski to get some THAI food!!! Can you believe I’ve never had Thai food either? We were first going to go to Flavors of India, our fave Indian restaurant, but apparently they’re closed for renovations :-/

Not to fear, we decided to hit up a Thai place:

Shane got a sampler, but it was all meat-based, so I sat there while my stomach ate my back bone for an appetizer.

And THEN came the grub:

I got the tofu pad thai and it was out of this world delicious. I love Thai food!!!

Somehow the afternoon FLEW by, and it was already time to head into Peoria to meet some friends for dinner and drinks.

note: shortly before I wrote this post, ALL of my pictures from last night got deleted somehow. I started freaking OUT, and then remembered my husbands a technology genius. He was able to recover MOST from last night. The rest I’ll steal from the other people who had cameras 😉

A big group of friends got together for mine, and my girl Mel’s birthday for dinner at Granite City.

These are seriously some of my favorite people in the world, and it means so much to me that they all came out to help me celebrate 😀

Before dinner, I had some sort of fruity drink. It had chambord in it, so I was sold 😀 I had one, and then switched to some water with dinner…which was:

A portabella melt with some grilled asparagus. It was aight. Not stellar, but I definitely ate it all :D

My girl Kim, who you’ve met during my cruise posts, and who now has her own blog, Sunny State of Mind (check it out! She’s just started a new Gluten Free diet/lifestyle and she’s writing about it, her fitness, eats, and fun 🙂 ) got me THREE Alternative Baking Co. cookies:

And a shirt from Destin that says "Peace, Love, and Sandy Feet" which is SO me. I have awesome friends. Just sayin’.

After dinner we all headed out to a bar for some more shenanigans!

Gah. Love these girls!

I probably only had three beers (only?) but I also had some birthday shots. I’m typically not a shot girl, so I’m not feeling the hottest as I write this post 😉

For some reason, we say “prune” instead of “cheese” after a few drinks 😀 hahah

The mens..including the hubski who was my wonderful DD for the night:D

CONVAR29We headed out around midnight and Shane and I made the drive back to Normal.

I couldn’t resist eating half err a third of one of my birthday cookies on the way home 😉

I have a couple new clients tomorrow, so I’m off to Borders to get some paper work and plans done! Later on, my mom, dad, brother, and SIL are coming to visit and go out to dinner 😀 The celebration continues!!

Hope you’re having an absolutely fabo weekend!!

Time’s a Changin’ and a PDR!

Morning all! Happy Daylight Savings Time! Remember to set your clocks ahead?

So how was everyones’ weekends? Mine’s been filled with good fun and good company!

One Friday a month I get together with a group of girlfriends for wine, shenanigans, and bunco, and this Friday was one of those nights! It was such a blast. Like I said in my previous post, it was one of the girl’s birthdays, so it gotta little more crazy than usual 😉

Oh, and everyone loved the balls I brought 😀

Birthday cake…that I never got a chance to try! Oh but don’t worry, there were other goodies sampled 😉
I didn’t end up winning anything, but it was a great time, nonetheless!

After a night of indulgence (i.e. glasses of wine and an abundance of sugar) I had a nice, stabilizing breakfast:

Oat (bran) in a jar!

In the jar of goodness was:

-1/2 c. oat bran
-1/2 c. water
-1/2 c. almond milk
-1 packet of Purevia
-1 T. hemp powder
-1 banana
-About a T. of almond butter

Then it was time to get ready for a long run. The weather was rainy and about 45 degrees, so it was a bit of an internal debate on whether it was happening inside on the dreadmill or outside on the road. During the couple hours it took to digest breakfast, while I was majorly indecisive as to whether I’d run in or outdoors, I received THREE packages!

Here’s a couple of em:

Birthday Lulu’s!

My mom got me some of the new Wunder Groove crops, and I am in LURVE with them. Two best styles combined into one, if ya ask me!

Another package was from Ryan at POM Wonderful, who sent me a case of their 100% pure pomegranate juice to sample:

Review and experimentations coming soon 😉

After tearing into my packages, I finally decided on manning up and hitting the open road.

I used map my run to determine my route, but ended up getting a little more than I bargained for…

At what should have been the half way mark, I was already at 5 miles, and around mile 6, I ate to Clif Shot Bloks I packed in the bottom of my water bottle:

And got back to my house after 8.5 miles total, 1:22:46 later I got back to my house not feeling too shabby aside from my right hip being a little tight.
Stats n Splits:

Mile 1: 9:39
Mile 2: 9:46
Mile 3: 9:57
Mile 4: 10:06
Mile 5: 9:43
Mile 6: 9:48
Mile 7: 9:38
Mile 8: 9:29
Mile 8.5: 9:02

Woot! Average pace was 9:44. Not too shabby!

And that, my friends, is a personal distance record for this girl!  Yep, the farthest I’ve run is 8 miles. This…is was 8.5 miles felt like:

It also finally feels like running season has officially started for me. I came back with blisters and a wound (warning)

Let the race season begin! 😉

After a quick shower, I made a delicious refueling Green Monster:

This GM contained a little more ingredients than the ushe:
-1 frozen banana
-1/2 c. frozen cherries (which are natural anti-inflammatories)
-1 T. maca
-1 T. chia seeds (great for joint lubrication)
-1/2 scoop of choc. protein powder
-1 T. almond butter
-Almond milk
-2 handfuls of spinach

So good, and kept me full for a good few hours, even after a long run!

After a little laziness, the hubski and I headed out and braved the rain to do some runnin’ around town. We were on the hunt for a nice centerpiece for our kitchen table! We seriously went to about six stores looking for the right centerpiece, and finally settled on this beaute from Pier One:

Whatdya think? Doesn’t it go perfectly with the painting behind it?! I love, love, love it:D She’s a keeper.

While we were out, I polished off this lovely bar:

Quite the fantastic bar, if I do say so myself!

Also sipped on this as we were bumming around:

Around 5, we picked up a couple Papa Murphy’s pizzas and headed home!

IMG_5910 IMG_5911
These pizzas were for the company we had over last night! My brother and sister-in-law came down for some pizza, movie, and family time and it was a blast! While the pizzas were cooking, we just hung out in the kitchen for a while talkin’ up a storm, munching on some snacks, and sippin’ on some drinks:

My SIL loooves Kahlua, so I knew she’d join me in an after dinner drink of decaf and Kahula + cream:

We sipped on this while watching Couples Retreat. It was a pretty good movie! Kinda hokey at times, but overall, a good flick, in my opinion! It was so nice to see them – seems like it’s far and few between that we get together like this. Wish I woulda gotten a picture!

Well it’s already almost noon! The time’s a changin’ and it’s catching up with me! On the agenda for today:

  • gym with Heidi for a run and legs
  • grocery shopping
  • going through LLC and other self-employed business
  • laundry
  • floors

Yikes! It’s a busy one!! Better get crackin’ 😀

Have a beautiful Sunday, everyone!!

Which daylight savings do you prefer more? Springing ahead or falling back? I’m a HUGE fan of springing ahead. I hate when it gets dark so early! When it stays lighter later, it reminds me of barbeques, long evening walks, and SUMMER!
