Declutter Your Mind

Greetings! Everything OK in your world? I hope so – things are fine here.

I just returned from a quick 2.5 miler(with a 8:45 pace!! I was in a hurry) and am about to down some oooovernight oats. It’s been a while.

Yesterday after I took a nap lay awake in bed for an hour, I got up with a fierce craving for hot oats. This is rare in the hot summer heat, so I went with the craving.

Craving=solved and it was a lovely bowl of oats indeed. A dollop of Greek yogurt does wonders to hot oats in the summer. It’s the perfect way to cool them down without going so far as to making them overnight oat-esque.

A load or two of laundry and some scrapbooking later and I fueled up before heading to the gym:

Half a peanut butter chocolate Lara Bar.

It was all I had not to finish the whole thing. I stuck the rest in my purse to eat post workout/pre-training session. After an intense 3.5 interval run followed by back and biceps work, I trained a client, chatted up the owner, and headed home.

I had another errand to tend to. This one’s a doozy.

Getting this one to the vet. She actually didn’t do too bad! And got copious amounts of Greenies when she returned. All is well in the tough life of Clarabelle. Although I do think it’s a load of crap for my county to instill a law that I pay a fee each year to have my INDOOR cat registered for rabies. Whatev.

Still on minimal sleep, I trucked on. Lunch helped!

I had leftovers of this, but the leftovers pic turned out to be way less appetizing looking than this one.

Dessert was even more unappetizing-looking.

IMG_8215But it was good, nonetheless. I intended to have a green monster, but I was gluttonous and ate all the frozen bananas in my banana soft serve I had the night before. So I got my protein in protein cookie dough form (protein powder, a little almond milk, a            tsp. PB, sea salt, cocao powder) Yum! 🙂

I glowered at my to-do list when I saw what was next: scrubbing the floors. Once a month I get down on my hands and knees with some rubber gloves and a bucket of hot water and soap and scrub ‘til I’m mad. It’s so rewarding, though.

My reward:

Pretty sure this is the last Kombucha in my city. Wah!

By this time, I was so beat, the thought of going back to work seemed like a sin! I almost rescheduled for tomorrow, but then I thought of how I’d feel about that tomorrow, and changed my mind 😉 It’s always fun, but getting there is sometimes a challenge.

Before I left for my client’s house, I made a little dinner for the hubski and me:

Taco salad! Taco taco; burrito burrrito; taco taco!

I actually got this recipe out of my Hungry Girl cook book. I was feeling uninspired with the usuals, and haven’t made anything from that cookbook from a while because there’s usually chemical-laden/not whole foods ingredients in the recipes like Splenda or egg white substitute. Of course I tweaked it a bunch, but the overall concept was from her recipe;)

I added some tempeh on top to mine. I love tempeh!

When I got home from training my last client of the day, I started winding down immediately. I didn’t want another restless night like Sunday night. I had a small dessert of some ice cream and then made some sleepy time tea. Finally, I prepared this morning’s coffee, shut down the kitchen, and laid everything out for today. It majorly helped declutter the mind. Another thing that helps is writing down what you need to do the following day right before you head to bed. That way, instead of thinking about it and trying not to forget it when you’re head hits the pillow, it’s already all laid out for ya!

Well I’m off to eat some breakfast and head to work. Catch ya lata 😀

What helps you declutter your mind before calling it a night? If tea and a list don’t help, I put on some lavender-scented lotion. The calming aroma does wonders to calm the brain 🙂

Meta Writing

It’s a technical term. I technically made it up in my head 😉

Hi guys! How ya doin on this fine Tuesday night? I decided to post tonight instead of tomorrow morning, because if I went with the latter, I’m not sure there would be a post to publish. Tomorrow is an endurance day. By that, I mean I’ll be working sunup to sundown. Hardcore.

This morning I had to get in a supah quick run. I’d planned on running a three mile interval run, sprinting for .2 miles and jogging for .1 miles for 3 miles total. Kinda like reverse HIIT. That’s a technical term too 😉 After realizing that I pressed snooze two too many times and I didn’t want to be caught running around the house yelling, “sh!t! I’m late!! Crap!!” I cut it down to 2.5 miles. Actually…who am I kidding, I still ran out the door saying those exact words, but that’s neither here nor there.

Post-run breakfast:

One bigass whole wheat protein waffle with the usual toppings. Guys, this stuffed me to the brim. I didn’t have time to pack a lunch for work, but that’s OK. This held me for five hours until I meandered down to the cafeteria to grab an apple and a banana to eat with a handful of almonds. I just didn’t want anything heavy.

Before heading home, I munched on a chocolate brownie Lara Bar. Lara Bar really hit the mark when concocting these flavors. This was pure excellence. Still rating the cookie dough flavor numero uno out of the ones I’ve had so far (Carrot Cake and the Brownie) but this one falls closely behind. So good, with no artificial-tasting flavor.

I told you guys how I’ve been STARVED lately and just end up making whatever I can get my hands on for dinner, so I played it safe today and made a Green Monster to hold off the hunger beast within.

IMG_0059 It provided some energy to help the hubsky plant the veggies one of my clients gave me!

Sweet peppers, hot peppers, and tomatoes. Grow baby, groooowwww 🙂

Later the husband finally mentioned the word dinner and I was chopping veggies in five seconds flat.

It was a grill night, which meant all I had to do was chop and season the veggies. Perfect.

Mound o’ veggies.IMG_0066

Had them with grilled potatoes, a veggie burger, and a glass of red vino. Totally delicious and nutritious.

Dessert was my book, the patio, and my dog. The ultimate summer evening can be considered a dessert, m’friends.

Mental Stories

Today I realized how much I “write” stuff in my head. Whether it’s for the blog or for another project I’m working on, when I have time to be idle and not concentrating on something, my mind always goes into writing mode. By this I mean, I was writing this post in my head on my walk from the BIC building to my car. As I was planting the plants, and as I was waiting for the husband to talk about dinner (I’m hungry, damnit! 😛 )

Writers (we’ve all got a little writer in us!) do you have a writing dialogue going on in your head when you’re not concentrating on a task at hand? – or while you are…I’ll take a side of ADD with my inner dialogue 😛 Like I said, I do! Sometimes I get so deep in thought that I almost have to shake myself out of it LOL. And I actually thought about this question while mentally writing. What is that, meta mental writing? LOL

Have a fabulous night, everyone, and an even better hump day! See you Thursday morning, and don’t forget to enter my New Flavors of Lara Bar giveaway! 🙂

The Easy Way Out’s OK w/ Me

Today I woke up to a pain in my ass. Literally. I did a pretty intense superset-style weights workout yesterday that left the tops of my glutes, my chest, and my back siiiiiinging the chorus today.

Here’s what I did:

1a. Walking lunges length of gym   2 sets w/ 25 lb plates
1b. Overhead press 2 sets w/ 15 lb. dumbbells
2a. Single leg stiff deadlift 2 sets w/ 35 lb. kettlebell
2b. Single point row 2 sets w/ 25 lb. dumbbells
3a. Deadlifts 3 sets w/ 45 lb. olympic bar + 20 lbs
3b. Lat pulldowns 3 sets w/ lat pulldown machine @ 35 lbs
4a. Prisoner jump squats 2 sets 10 reps
4b. Pushups 2 sets 10 reps
5. Swiss ball jack knifes

Ahhhh it was a good workout. Wait ‘til you see what I had as a post workout snack…

IMG_8030well, an epic fail of HEAB’s protein ice cream (I neeeed a vitamix. NEED. Hear that, husband?! 😉 )

But THEN, I had a new Carrot Cake Lara Bar!!

Sarah over at Lara Bar sent me the new flavors to try out, and Carrot Cake tastes amazing! If you liked the tropical flavor from last year, you’ll love the Carrot Cake flavor! The only thing I wasn’t so sure about it was that it tasted more like pineapple than carrot cake. It was still amazing, nonetheless, and only stood about 10 seconds against me. Its ingredients are: dates, almonds, walnuts, raisins, pineapple, coconut, carrots, cinnamon, and coconut oil. Yummy stuff! 😀

Yesterday was pretty much an insanely busy day that started with a pre-dawn client, followed by four more. In between clients, I had to take Niko to the groomers, work a little at home on BIC stuff, and get ready to host bunco!

I took the easy way out.

IMG_8033When in doubt, order Jimmy John’s. Life philosophy lesson right there folks. Only on RAN.

I also took the easy way out for dessert. Janetha told me this dessert was easy and 100% guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser. It’s a good thing I trust her.

I made the crust…

IMG_8032  Topped it with the sauce and fruits…

And watched it disappear before my eyes!

IMG_8035 DEFINITEY a crowd pleaser. Janetha, so many people loved this!

While making, I munched on some veggies and hummus:

Bunco was a blast, and I ended up winning my money back for being the biggest loser (most losses,) wahoo!

Today’s supposed to be my long run day: 9 miles. I’ve yet to find my iPod (tear…) so my question for you all today is this:

What’s worse: running outdoors for 9 miles without an iPod or running on a treadmill for 9 miles while watching your show? I can’t decide! It wasn’t bad for eight miles on a treadmill last weekend, but I don’t know if I can do it twice!

Stay tuned on Monday morning for an amazing blog anniversary giveaway (yes, I can still celebrate from last week! 🙂 ) Hint: It has something to do with what I reviewed above 😉

Will you Keep My Banana? Giveaway!

Hi everyone! As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I have an exciting giveaway for you guys! 😀 I’ll post all of the details at the bottom of the post, but before you scroll down there, read on about my Friday night dinner out with my girlfriends!

After all of the excitement of my first 10K, I forgot to put up a post about the awesome dinner and time that I had with my girlfriends at a wonderful restaurant called, Biaggi’s!

Friday night we celebrated a friend’s birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant here in town. I looove this place. They have really great food and drinks:)I had a glass of Pinot before dinner:

And sampled a piece of that bread you probably spy in the back. ;-)Then for my entree, I had Butternut Squash Ravioli with Walnuts:

Looks and sounds awesome, right? Well, it probably would have been a favorite if they didn’t drown it in butter. It was one of those dishes where you could literally smell the butter. I was a bit put off by that, but ate most of it anyway. The actual ravioli were amaazing. Such a creative idea for fall!

After we all finished, we all split their famous white chocolate bread pudding for dessert – sooo yum.

And they gave the birthday girl their signature ice cream (spumonti) and it came out with a candle in it – so cute!

It was so nice getting together with everyone. A couple of them live out of town, so it’s harder to see them often. Everyone had a blast!

Ok, now for the guts of the post – the Giveaway!!!

There were so many positive comments on my post the other day about my Tupperware banana keeper , I knew I just had to do a giveaway for one! Thanks to RAN mom and sister-in-law for donating one (SIL is a Tupperware consultant) to Running Around Normal so I could share! 🙂

This little container is really cool:

  • It allows you to take a banana with you, without getting squished in your purse or lunch box
  • It keeps it fresher longer
  • It’s SO cute 🙂

And the winner of the Banana Keeper won’t find their banana keeper empty:

I’m including two random flavors of Lara Bars in the keeper. See, it can keep more than just bananas! haha

The rules:
The contest is only open to US residents. I’ll pick a winner on Thursday night!

  • Just leave a comment on this post telling me one thing you LOVE about yourself. That’s it!
  • Or if you’re not on Twitter, you can just linkback to this post in one of your posts. But make sure to leave another comment on here, so I can count your extra entry.

Tendinitis, Be Afraid.

Hi there! How’s Tuesday treating you? Mine’s been pretty routine, but nothing too stressful or bad, so that’s good!

This morning I had my first shot at wearing my orthodics! Be jealous.

I wore tennis shoes to work today, because I’m not so sure they’d work with sandals, haha. Then I left the house forgetting to slip them in my shoes. Luckily they were still in my purse from the day before 😉 So at my desk, I slipped them in:

Tendinitis, be afraid. Be very afraid. Weird looking, huh? I seriously don’t know how this is supposed to fix my ankle, but we’ll see. In this morning’s post, ya’ll left a lot of comments on how they work, so I’m trusting you 😉 I slipped them on around breakfast time and wore them until lunch. Speaking of breakfast, today was a new Breakfast Cookie! Woo hoo!!

This was hands down the best one I’ve ever made. I didn’t measure out the ingredients, so I’ll do my best with telling you what went in:

  • 1/3 c. oats
  • 2 T pumpkin
  • 1.5 T of vanilla almond butter
  • 1 t pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 t agave
  • a small handful of chocolate chips

I was seriously in yumtopia land.

I had a meeting at my usual lunch hour, so I spent lunch at my desk. Fun times. I had some plain Oikos, a gala apple (YUM) and I made the wrap of which I am obsessed:

I ate this while I read the book you see in the back ground.
The wrap was obviously a Flat Out wrap, and it was flat out amazing. I just smushed a nanner in a bowl with 1.5 T of almond butter, then sprinkled on a T of flax. Really, if you haven’t tried this, please do…it will about knock your head off 😀

I kicked it at a few meetings and had a little productive time at my desk, then around 3:30, I consumed this lovely little Lara Bar for my pre-run snack:

Oh, and throughout the whole day, I listened to Wunder Radio on my iPhone. iPhone users, if you don’t have this app, you need it! First I listened to the rest of Bob and Tom, then I listened to the West coast’s Bob and Tom, and then I revisited my Hawaiin honeymoon by listening to the station Shane and I fell in love with in Maui. Speaking of honeymoons, our anniversary is about a week away!! 😀 (September 27th <3)

Run it, Run it

My run ended up being at the gym, because I know treadmills have better surfaces to run on, joints-wise, and I thought it’d be wise for my ankle. I’m a bad patient and I pounded out 5.5 miles. Shane was a little PO’d that I ran that far. But, but, but…I have a 10K race this Saturday! The only day I’ll run before it is Thursday, and it will be a gentle 3 miler.

Stats from the run:

It was a good run for being on the treadmill. Usually I hate those things, but today it wasn’t bad at all. There were several other runners on around me, and I think I fed off of their energy 🙂 I’m pretty sure dinner will be leftovers tonight, with what all the awesome food I’ve been cranking out of my cookbook this week! I have a zucchini I need to do something with before it goes bad, too. I would really, really like to get a spiralizer so I could make real zucchini pasta! I saw one on Missy Maintains today, and I’m so jealous! 🙂

Question: If you work out after work/school, what’s your post-workout routine? Do you stretch, eat, shower? shower, stretch, eat (etc..)?

Giveaway Winner of 100th ish Post!

It’s time to announce the giveaway winner for my 100th-ish post giveaway!

But first, a little recap on the day’s festivities.

My day started out inevitably hectic. Although today I was able to wake up and crawl out of bed when my alarm went off, trudge upstairs to the elliptical, and then power out a 45 minute sweat sesh, I let my post-workout stretching last a wee bit too long. Ok, maybe I just wanted to watch the rest of the Real Housewives of Hotlanta that I TiVo’d.

This started a spiral of rushing around the house, and my running late. Although I didn’t have time to pack a lunch, spray on some perfume, or turn on the radio for the pets, I did have time to make a trusty Green Monster! This one was SO good.

It contained:

  • a handful of spinach
  • a half a frozen banana
  • half c. of frozen mango
  • 1 c. of oganic, skim milk
  • 1 packet of stevia
  • 1 T of flax meal
  • 2 T of coconut

I blended that sucker up, and topped it off with some wheat germ and some more unsweetened coconut. This one, my friends, is a keeper!

A while after I arrived to work, I enjoyed a bowl of Kashi Good Friends and Antioxidants:

It was a delicious combination.

Lunch came around quickly. I was busy running reports for meetings, and was feeling uninspired as far as lunch ideas go. So when my friend asked me to go to Panera, I readily agreed.

I inevitably ordered my fav – the Fuji Apple salad, and a half Mediterranian on whole grain. Much to my dismay, when they called out my name to come get my food, I noticed it had no dried apple on it 😦 When I questioned them, they told me they ran out, and handed me an apple. Hmph.

Oh well, I ate the meal and the apple in its entirety. I had planned on getting an oatmeal cookie to go, but fortunately forgot about it.

Right before I called it a day, I had a Tropical Fruit Tart Lara Bar.

Mmm this flavor is very nummy.

Ok, on to what we all are really here for…the Giveaway Results!

After tallying up the entries and consulting with the handy dandy random number generator, the winner is……………………………………………

Congrats, !! Please send me your contact information, and I’ll send these goodies

to you sometime this week!

Thanks for entering, everyone!!

Question: What tactics do you use to streamline your morning routine?

The Weekend’s Leftovers

Hi there party people:D How’s your Monday going? Did you manage to stay somewhat cheerful? I have to say, mine turned out to be quite OK. I worked at a steady pace at work, not too overwhelming, but not boring either 🙂

My meals were pretty Mundane on this Monday.

Breakfast was left over pancakes from yesterday morning. (Pic from yesterday morning)

Except I totally forgot to pour some maple syrup on them before heading out the door 😦 Oh well, at least they had some Mighty Maple Peanut Butter on em!

Oikos snackie!

I got my mom hooked on this Oiko’s yogurt! She’s like me, too, once she finds something she likes, she’s a fiend for it! haha

I spent my lunch hour running errands, but thankfully, the rain stopped for a good hour, and I got some vitamin D in through my sunroof 😀

Lunch was leftovers as well. Hey, better than wasting food, right??

Black Bean Burgers from yesterday’s lunch! (Pic, again, from yesterday)

My snack was a bit more exciting, though! I finally got to get a taste of the coconut cream pie Lara Bar!

Holy yumoly was this thing good! It’s definitely up there as a favorite. I wish I would have gotten MOAR when I was at Whole Foods the other day.

And before I left I had some peanuts from the HUGE bag in my filing cabinet.

They hold me over pretty well:)

OK, so you know how I said I was done with quinoa? Well, tonight I’m giving it another try. After I posted about the right way to cook quinoa, I’m finally giving it a second third shot. This time, however, I’m washing it, toasting it, and eating it with eggplant. Can’t go wrong with that, right? We’ll see….

Has there been a food that you LOVE now that you didn’t love so much the first couple times you tried? I’m hoping this is how it is for me with quinoa. I’m exciting to share with you guys how it turns out! (I might be sharing Shane’s leftover pizza!)
