The Only Option We Have Right Now

I did it. I convinced my parents that pizza was a far more attractive choice than Mexican when they came up just to see me to give me back my dog last night.


But how can you turn down Lucca’s Pizza? It’s sinful, and there’s no need to be sinful on a Sunday now is there.


I still felt like a zombie from getting close to no sleep the night before, so I’m not sure I was much fun company, but I do know that the pizza was right on par!

To drink, I had about 5 refills of a large glass of water.

Stuffed, I came home, we said out goodbyes, and I proceeded to pass out on the couch while watching another episode of 24. It’s getting highly amusing how Jack Bauer can literally get anyone to do anything.

I wish I had those persuasive abilities. Me: “Husband, we need to get a Vitamix, NOW. It’s imperative to the state of the smoothie. It’s the only option we have right now.” Husband: *sigh* “you’re right.”

After a solid eight hours of sleep, I woke up this morning STILL feeling like I’d been hit by a truck! So I slept another half hour, rolled out of bed, drank some coffee, and nibbled on some pre-running fuel:

Now, I definitely debated while I took Niko on her morning walk on whether I should go for  my planned 4 mile run or not. My body said ehhh probably not a good idea, but my heart said there’s no other option available (Jack Bauer-style, of course.) So I headed out, telling myself not to push it, and to take walk breaks if I needed them.

The run actually made me feel much better, and I ended up running 4.25 miles in 38:47 😀 About a 9:08 average pace.

Usually after a run, I crave waffles or oatmeal, but today I wanted nothing more than a big, fresh, icy cold green grey (?) monster


It was the only available option 😉


Well I’m off to get a bit of work done, get my study on, and train a client! Hope you guys have a lovely Monday!


One Last Shebang

Hey bloggy people! How ya doin?

I’m POOPED. I’m usually not this tired on Mondays, but I just had a 14 hour day. Combine that with crap sleep the past two nights and you get one tired Paige.

Yesterday my mom, dad, brother, and SIL came over to celebrate my birthday. I had celebrated with everyone else except family!

They came over around 5:00 and we had a few drinks and caught up. Well, I had water, thankyouverymuch.

Not before long, we headed out and were on our way to one of our favorite places ever…Lucca’s!! I’ve blogged about Lucca’s before, but one thing I’ll say: best. pizza. ever. Seriously.

That’s what’s left of the veggie pizza my mom and I shared. We both had a little under half of the medium veggie + extra tomatoes pizza. What I love about Lucca’s pizza is a. the CRUST and b. it’s not overly greasy. It’s the worst when a pizza just has a film of grease over it. Bleh.

We also got some spinach and artichoke dip – the chips are actually piece of fried pizza dough! Amazingly good.


And while most everyone else had beer, I had water:


I just can’t do two nights in a row!

So good. So fun.

Then we all headed back to our house for some BIRTHDAY CAKE!!

Shortly after they all headed home, and Shane and I were left to relax and enjoy the rest of our night. AKA watch two episodes of 24 and then go to bed leaving me to do nothing but have nightmares of someone gutting me. Note to self: do NOT watch 24 directly before passing out.

This morning I got out of bed and got ready to head to the gym for an easy 4.5 miles. I usually take Monday’s as my rest day, but I decided to go ahead and go today since I had quite the indulgent weekend. Gotta have that balance! However, I probably should have taken the extra sleep. I had a few clients to train directly after work (including my first male client!) and now I am beat. In fact, I feel a tickle in the back of my throat that might be more than just tiredness. I REALLY hope I’m not catching something…Urgh.

Anyway, this is the last of the birthday posts! Normal posting (normal?) to resume tomorrow 😀

What’s your favorite cake flavor? We have a cake-baker here in town that has the MOST amazing Butter Pecan cake EVER. Shane and I had it served at our homecoming wedding reception. Otherwise, chocolate all the way 😀

If It Hatha be Monday…

Good morning! I can’t believe it’s already Monday again! And so the cycle re-starts. I just finished a wonderful Gentle Hatha yoga session to help bring me into the work week. I just love this little yoga habit I’ve gotten myself into 😀 If it hatha be Monday, might as well start it with peace and calmness.

I think I did pretty good with my back on track goals – I know I got in my fruits and veggies, and I definitely gave Niko her share of walkies. It was absolutely gorgeous out in central Illinois yesterday – with the temperature reaching 70 degrees!

I had plans yesterday morning to meet my friend, Heidi at the gym when I woke up. But first, I wanted to make the hubski some pancakes using some of Trader Joe’s pumpkin pancake mix I scored a few weeks ago:



He gobbled them up as soon as I snapped a picture! I snagged a bite, too, and I must say, they’re quite delicious.

I however, wanted some toast and jam – the simple route. So I got out the whole wheat Great Harvest bread I got a couple days ago, and wrapped a couple pieces in tinfoil to toast in the oven.


Slathered in black cherry jam, basking in they’re deliciousness, gym fuel:


Gym workout  cardio-wise was an easy 20 minutes of incline walking on the treadmill (didn’t want to over do it after my cardio party from Saturday) and the following full body workout:

Bicep curls: 2 sets of 12 @ 15 lbs.

Chest press: 2 sets of 12 @ 15 lbs.

Overhead tricep extension: 2 sets of 12 @ (one weight) 15 lbs.

Bent row: 2 sets of 12 @ 20 lbs.

Lat pull down: 2 sets of 12 w/ 45 lbs.

Pushups: 10

Squats: 2 sets of 12 w/ 2 15 lb. dumbbells

Roman Deadlift: 2 sets of 12 w/ 2 15 lb. dumbells

Crunches: 25 on stability ball

I was pretty beat and shaky after this workout, and needed to get some protein to these muscles, and I did just that. We drove over to Starbuckie’s where we each got a latte and chit chatted for about an hour. And made got some humor out of a few Starbuck’s go-ers who were just too cool for school. You know what I’m talking about! mahaha

Got some housework and odds and ends done, and then fried up some lunch.

Fueled and ready to learn, I set up shop for the rest of the afternoon for some studying:


I have to learn these neurons, muscles, joints and tendons! ack!!

Oh, on an exciting note, I signed up for a CPR/AED course to be certified so I can sit for the fitness certification exam. Holla! Not so exciting: I sit for the exam the day after I get back from my cruise in December. Looks like someone will be toting around a study guide while basking in the sun. It’s a rough life, no? 😉

A little while into studying, I did not feel well at all. I felt tired (and even fell asleep,) weak, and lethargic. I’m pretty sure I was dehydrated. After all the workouts I did this weekend, I don’t think I took in enough fluids at all. Plus, I haven’t been making a conscious effort to drink lots of water lately. Don’t want to slack in that department! Perhaps I should add “drink more water” to the back on track list? 🙂

Unfortunately, I didn’t get all of it done that I wanted to (do we ever??) but it was then time for the last event of the hubski’s birthday weekend celebration! His fam and mine all got pizza from the best pizza place in this city:


Lucca Grille – mmmm!

I didn’t take a picture, but I got what I get every. single. time. Veggie pizza with extra tomatoes. Yumtopia, my friends. Afterword, we all sat around and had a beer while we caught up – and a good time was had by all 😀

Time to go make some moneys –  off to that work place!

Lucca Grill…a Cornerstone of Bloomington/Normal

Last night I dined at a local favorite here in Bloomington at a pizza/italian joint called Lucca Grill. Established in 1936, this place has hardly changed at all! Actually, it’s where my parents used to go for pizza and beer back when they went to ISU. They’re in their early 60’s now, so you can do the math 😉 Almost every time they come up and visit and stay for dinner, we dine here. Every time we go, they mention how they can’t believe how much hasn’t changed – from the floor to the tin ceiling, the walls to the bar, it looks almost exactly the same.

My parents and brother were in town tonight because they had to drop my SIL off at the airport, so they had to stop by and have some Lucca’s pizza. I met them there, and as always, I shared a veggie pizza, double veggie, with my mom. My brother and dad shared the polar opposite – a meat lovers! lol


Sorry it’s blurry, I just whipped out my iPhone and took the picture. Their pizza is the best. Honestly, I don’t even look at the menu at all because this is the only thing I ever order. They have the best sourdough cracker-like crust. I could have eaten this whole thing by myself. Thankfully, mom was just as hungry as I was! I wouldn’t be lying if I said this was my favorite pizza south of Chicago.

The pizza was sooo good. And yes, I stuck to my challenge rules and didn’t have any beer. It was tempting though, as mom and dad were putting them back, but I sipped on my water. I needed the water after my run anyhow.

After we parted ways, I came back to the house and walked Niko. It was an absolutely gorgeous summer night out. The sun looked like a ball of fire as it was setting.

After Niko did her biz, I started making some banana softserve for the hubski and me. However, I improvised a little tonight.

This is what I like to call Banana Soft Serve Remix!

It begins with just your typical banana soft serve, then enter chopped frozen strawberries and mangos, and sprinkled unsweetened coconut on top. I also topped it with some raw chocolate syrup (maple syrup + cocoa powder.) Doesn’t that look sinful?! It isn’t! I promise! I was actually trying to recreate the ice cream Shane and I always get at the local ice cream shoppe by our house. I have to say it came pretty close.
