One for the Books

Nothin’ like a cold breakfast bowl on a hot summer morning:

OK…so I’m going to pull out the “summer morning/afternoon/evening” as long as I can.

Morning rainclouds stole my lighting:(

Overnight oats – 1/3 c. oats, 1 T. chia, 1 t. maca powder, sea salt + stevia, 1/2 scoop Jay Robb, 1/4 c. plain oikos, 1/2 c. of milk – went into the fridge and chilled over night. This morning, I added another 1/2 c. of milk, a handful of Kashi, and some puffed millet. I like when there’s extra milk. This way is also a lot like Gina’s breakfast cookie dough cereal, which looks delicious as well 🙂

Sidenote: I had all intentions of eating this after a hot morning run this morning – I know! I even woke up on with just enough time to strap on my Garmin and head out doors for a 35 minute tempo run. Except I woke up, started the coffee, and then realized it was POURING. So, the run will wait until tonight after my client I s’pose.

August is still most definitely full fledge summer season in my opinion. But for some reason when the month changes from August to September, all of the sudden, it’s really happening: fall is coming. Another year goes by that I don’t somehow find a magic power to make the next month May. Not that September is a bad month – I got married in September…but not in Illinois 😉

There’s something magical about walking outside no matter what you’re wearing (albeit wearing clothes) and not worry about the temperature.

Don’t get me wrong, I love fall. Love, love, love. I love all one week of it 😉 At least here in Central Illinois, it seems fall lasts about that long – a week. And then…there’s six months of cold.

This year, instead of hanging on the every last string of summer and wrinkling my nose at the premature Halloween decorations flooding the stores, I’m going to take a moment to celebrate this summer.

It was one for the books…

I ran my first half marathon

I quit my full time desk job

And experienced three weeks of pure bliss

Then I went back to my desk job, but with the amount of working hours cut in half

Drank lots of wine

I fell out of the race loop

But my love of running didn’t waver…and eventually the race bug bit me

Celebrated a year of blogging

And Watched my best friend marry the man of her dreams

Helped my husband quit smoking (still smoke free!!)

Welcomed my best friend home from Afghanistan

Won First Place in my summer league volleyball

Posted my first vlog

And created lots of yummy recipes

Helped make my friends birthday a surprise hit

And went on several cute out door dates with the husband

Went to Healthy Living Summit!

 

You notice I didn’t take any outrageous summer vacations or really even a summer trip, but it was how I felt internally that made it so blissful! This summer I learned how to slow down and savor life and just keep a positive attitude in general.

Oh, Summer, it was a fun one, and I’ll see you next year.

And technically, there’s still 23 days left of summer 😉

Indoor Innuendos

Morning!

I’ve had myself a productive little morning, and I’ve yet to eat breakfast! After waking, showering, and coffee-ing, I zipped to the gym to train a client, dropped off a check to our landscaper, and walked the pup!

Yesterday was a glorious day that was spent mostly indoors. In fact, I didn’t even leave the house until my first training session, which was at 5:00.

Throughout the day, I snacked on some strawberries IN a bowl:

Before breaking for some lunch, which was a wrap and an apple w/ PB:

Then I jetted to the gym where I got IN my own lifting sesh of deadlifts, lat pull downs, o/h presses, barbell lunges, and swiss ball crunches before training two clients and heading back home for the night.

Once home, the hubski and I partook in a glass or two of pinot grigio:

While sipping on the pinot syrup, I cooked dinner. Using a marinade of apple cider vinegar + maple syrup + tamari + coconut oil, I put half in a bag with chicken for Shane, and half in a bag with pressed and cubed tofu for moi. They marinated while I trained, and cooked while we sipped!

Baked IN the oven at 400º for 30 minutes, flipping half way, it turned out magnificently!

On the side, was a mix of sauteed onions, mushrooms, green beans, and red potatoes:IMG_7058

By the time dinner was nearing ready-status, and the aroma in the kitchen was so delicious-smelling, that I didn’t even have to call out that dinner was ready.

I made the judgment call this morning to wait until after my training appointment to eat breakfast, since dinner was eaten so late last night.  However, now, I’m extremely hungry and excited that I have over night  Over 20 minutes oats in the fridge!

Today’s going to be fun. After devouring the above breakfast, I plan on cleaning out my car, training another client, getting in an interval run, taking a walk with a girlfriend, and FINALLY purchasing new running shoes. Later tonight I have a volleyball game! 😀

How long for you is the time between waking at eating breakfast? If I’m not working out or training first thing in the morning, I’ll eat breakfast about a half hour after waking. However, if I’m doing a cardio workout or training first thing (which is typical) I’ll eat right after I’m done.

Two More Days

Hi there! Two more days left at my full time job. Holy crap, that’s as crazy as it sounds 😀

Knowing that makes today just a smidge easier. You see, yesterday ended with a 9:00 p.m. sand volleyball game on the other side of town. Did I mention it’s currently 5:30 a.m. and I have a 6:00 a.m. client before work? Two more days. Two more days.

But let’s rewind back to what yesterday started with.

After a 45 minute Insanity workout with the husband, breakfast was NEEDED.

A breakfast cookie! I haven’t had one of these babies in a while. This one in particular had oats, 1/2 a banana, 1 T. peanut butter, 1/8 c. almond milk, maca, Jay Robb protein powder, cocao nibs, and cranberries.

Washed it down with a no fuss smoothie involving half a frozen banana, frozen blueberries, water, spinach, and a 1/2 t. xantham gum. It was the perfect breakfast to fuel a hard work out. Note: Insanity makes you SWEAT. On my side of the floor, it looked like a rain cloud passed through. Shane’s side looked more like a monsoon, but that’s neither here nor there 😉

Then I was off to work for a few hours. My trainee is pretty much trained. I don’t think my managers will miss my mad planning skillz with him around 😉 Not sure what we’ll do these LAST TWO DAYS (!!) but I’m sure it’ll be all good.

For lunch, Shane and I went to Chipotle, and I ordered the veggie burrito bol:

Around 3, I had an unpictured snack of plain greek yogurt + homemade granola. And then around 5, I trained a client.

Once home, I walked Niko, cleaned up, and got started on dinner.

For the main course, I sauteed some Quorn chick’n strips + portabello mushroom slivers:

And topped a spinach and bell pepper salad with it.

I’m slowly but surely making my way through my NuNaturals stash. I really do love this Stevia. Would you guys want to do a giveaway on this stuff? There’s enough readers that like stevia on the blog for it, right?

While this meal was digesting, I caught up on Glee. ‘Twas a good one. Neil Patrick Harris is pretty awesome.

And then when I felt like I should get ready and go to bed, I left for my volleyball game.

Who schedules games at 9:00 at night?! Yeah…definitely going to need that second cuppa joe today, m’friends.

Itchy Legs

Hiiiii there! How are you!? Sporadic Posting McGee here 😉

I’ve been going since 5:15 this morning (where my first client overslept!) to just now. Gotta say, it feels amazing to be kickin’ the ol’ feet up!

After my two one morning training appointments, I was off to the office work where it was day one of training my replacement. It was also where I enjoyed this lovely mess:

Overnight Oats is perfect for on-the-go breakfasts. In this version was my usual – oats, maca, stevia, sea salt, carob powder, Jay Robb, almond milk, half a banana, and almond butter. Oh, and coconut butter drizzled on top. Phew! That’s a lot of ingredients.

It was around lunch time when my throat started getting soar. For a minute I thought I was getting sick. Then I realized I’d literally been talking and training someone since 6 this morning LOL. My last day at the office isn’t until next Friday, so I have a feeling these last two are going to be long ones! Kind of like a race…the end is near but those last two miles are the toughest!

Speaking of running, I’ve yet to run since my half marathon. My legs are itching to break out into a run on the pavement. However, I just haven’t made it out. Instead of running, I’ve been jumping around like a crazy person while working out to Insanity and lifting on off days. I’m not too worried about losing endurance though since my next race isn’t until June. It’s a 9 miler at a race called Steamboat Classic. I’m pretty excited for it 😀
I did get in a killer weight work out this morning though

Deadlift with bar and 10 lb weights on each side – 2 sets, 15 reps
Alternating sets:
Dumbbell shoulder press – 15 lbs – 2 sets, 15 reps
Wide grip lat pull down – 27.5 lbs – 2 sets 15 reps
Alternating sets:
Lunges w/ 10 lb dumbbells – 2 sets, 15 reps
Swiss ball crunch – 2 sets 10 reps

1/2 scoops of Jay Robb, sea salt, 1 T. carob powder, stevia, almond butter, dash of almond milk. I needed something filling for lunch, because I didn’t want to snack away all afternoon like I usually do with my trainee sitting with me in my cube.

After it was quittin’ time at the office, I headed back to the gym to train two more clients, and work a little before closing up shop. ‘Twas a fun time! I haven’t seen one of the clients for a long time, so it was great catching back up with her. And the other I always have a good time training. Hard to call it work, in reality…

When I finally got home for the night, I was stah-ving. My girl Amy saved the night:

They tasted so decadent and naughty! (Actually, no food is "naughty" but ya know what I mean.)

However, it didn’t put too much of a dent in the hunger department. When I saw chocolate Cheerios in the pantry I knew nothing else would satisfy:

So good, but the ingredient list is a little long and leery so I’ll probably stick with something else next time…

 

The rest of the night entailed a load of laundry and teaching Niko to "shake." She already knows sit, lie down…

My parents’ dog, Buck knows the command, "poison." It’s so freakin’ cute. If you hold out a treat and say "poison," he’ll turn his head like he wants nothing to do with it until you say, "OK!" Poor guy’s 14 years old, though.

Well it’s time for me to call it a night.I have a pretty full day tomorrow as well with a client before and after work. I’m going to try reeaaally hard to squeeze in a run somewhere!

Bad Blogger Face

What up, blog world! Happy Friday! Holler 🙂

This week went by in a flash for me! Anyone else? I’m definitely glad it’s the end of the week though. I have a feeling my last two week’s at the office aren’t going to exactly speed by 😉

In regards to yesterday’s post, it looks like there’s many of you who are/were in my situation with wanting to get back in touch with old hobbies. You guys are SO talented and have some pretty awesome hobbies, too! From Christina who used to horseback ride, to Susan who used to be in a band, to Averie who just wants to get out and let loose! There are also a lot of former softball players in the bloggy world! We all lead very busy lives, so it can be difficult to get back into something that’s “just for fun.” I know it took my more than five years to delve back into my hobby of volleyball, but I’m so glad I finally did. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had about two extra hours a day just to do what WE wanted to do for FUN.

Think of the possibilities if we could all create the time to really hone our crafts of these passions…

I had a super busy day, and failed to take ANY pictures! It was a fun day though – four clients, a "goodbye lunch" out with coworkers, and a 24 episode:)

This morning Shane and I were up and at ‘em searching for the French Press at 5:00 before getting to our Insanity workout. Today’s work was Power Cardio Resistance, and it was an absolutely awesome workout. We both commented on how we were sweaty beasts and the pushups were killer. Definitely felt it while washing the hair afterward 😉

However, while I was doing some sort of Insane inverted pushup, I had visions of Overnight Oats dancing in my head. Well…that is if overnight oats could dance. I suppose it was more like chilling in the fridge like a blob in my head. Regardless, it was still a motivator to kick some booty and get the workout done.

Before bed, I mixed a concoction of oats, stevia, sea salt, maca, 1/2 scoop of Jay Robb vanilla rice protein powder, carob powder, almond milk, greek yogurt, and dried cherries into a cute little square-shaped bowl:

Oh yeah, I drizzled melted coconut butter and stuck it back in the fridge too.

So tomorrow will be a week from the half marathon last Saturday, and I haven’t run since. It feels SO weird! I definitely have the itch, but I told myself I’d take a whole week off of running after the half. Obviously I’ve been going other exercise though, with Insanity, the elliptical, and volleyball, but it’s still very weird. Also, I’m not sure if this directly correlates with my lack of running, but my appetite has been very low this whole week. Typically, I could eat any time, anywhere. Seriously I’m pretty much hungry all the time. However this week, I haven’t been needing hardly as many snacks and smaller meals. I guess we’ll see if it picks back up when I start running again on Sunday!

On the agenda today:

  • work
  • clean
  • Niko walk
  • having girlfriends over for a SATC night! Gotta prepare for SATC2 ya know. I’m pretty sure it qualifies as an event, and re-watching the series counts as training. Oh, and drinking cosmopolitans 😉

On to Greener Pastures

First off, thank you SO SO SO much for your support in my decision to leave my full time job to pursue my dreams in the fitness field. It means the world… 🙂

I overslept yesterday. AGAIN. I never oversleep. Except that one time… Luckily, I also always prepare my morning necessities the night before. So I changed into the clothes I had laid out, grabbed my training bag by the door, opened the fridge to grab my already-prepared breakfast and I was out the door to train a client. All in 10 minutes. On time. I also brushed my teeth, no worries 😉

Overnight Oats in a Jar! OOIAJ! – does anyone else sound that out in their heads? ! ew-ee-ahj! No? Just me? I digress…

I was almost out of this lovely little jar of Peanut butter and Co. Cinnamon Raisin PB and knew just how to make it work in my shorter than short morning.

Add ½ c. oats, 1.5 T. chia seeds, ½ c. Jay Robb, pinch of NuNaturals stevia, maca, 1 ripe banana, and almond milk.

Deliciousness ensued while eating this at the office job desk this morning.

The day was pretty mundane for a Tuesday, worked at the office, then trained at the gym. Good times:)

After training, I came home and just hung out with the hubski for a few hours. Since I’ve been training, we don’t see each other as much, but it seems the time we do spend together has had more quality to it! You know – instead of sitting side by side and watching shows, we’re actually hanging out, conversing, joking, etc 🙂

Last night we grilled out and had a beer together. I handled the veggies:

The Grass is Always Greener

Now I’m 100% happy with the decisions I posted on yesterdays post. That said, now that I’ve put it out there, and it’s a done deal, I’m being my typical self and can’t help but think “ohmigod…I really hope this is the right thing. What if this, what if that? I wish I could so and so.”
I really need to change this attitude. I can be VERY wishy washy or back and forth at times, from activities as minute as deciding which movie we should watch to as monumental as which job I should pick over the other. Instead of going back and hem hawing the situation, I need to be more decisive in my choices. Being supportive of oneself is so important. I have the support of my friends, my family, and all of you, so it only makes sense that I should have my own back as well 😉


Well the husband and I just finished up an Insanity workout. We’re debating whether or not to switch to P90X or not. I know I’ve said I’ll never do P90X (Tony Horton kinda makes me cringe) but we need more strength training in the workouts. And if I’m going to be running on the days we’re not doing the workouts, then I don’t want to take on TOO much by adding yet another component of strength training. Taking on too many exercise programs at once is a sure fire way to get an injury!

I’m super excited because tonight’s my first sand volleyball game! I’m a little nervous, too. I haven’t really played since my second year of college, and that was on a court, so I hope I’m agile and don’t make a fool of myself! Eep! Shane’s gonna try to get off work early and come watch, so there might be pictures 🙂

Question: Do you tend to be wishy washy in your decisions? Or are you the type that makes concrete decisions and never looks back? I’m working to be more of the latter.

A Dough-lightful Surprise

Good evening! I’m glad a lot of you guys found my tips to get through a tough run useful! Thank you to those who added your own tips, too. Some great tips to check out in the comments section of that post if you missed them!

I just got home from training a client and I am BEAT! Have I mentioned I thought it was Thursday all day today? It’s not Thursday. It’s Wednesday, FYI 🙂

Sorry for skipping out on ya this morning. I went straight from the gym to work after a 4 mile tempo run and some lower body weights and had no time for el blogo!

Before I went to bed the night before, I prepped a delicious concoction of some Overnight Oats.

But these oats were Angela-esque – and vegan! Instead of yogurt, I smashed a banana to stir in instead. Also included was a 1/3 c. oats, 2 T. chia seeds, stevia, almond milk, maca, dried cherries, 1/2 scoop of Jay Robb protein powder, and coconut butter (Artisana brand) drizzled on top.

They were delicious! A little thicker than when made with yogurt, but that’s not a bad thing in my world 🙂 After I snapped a pic, capped em up and ate them after working out at my desk at work.

Around lunch time, I left the office to get outside and enjoy yet another gorgeous day, and nom on some lunch.

After work I headed out with the hubski and pup for a neighborhood walk to get some more of that delicious fresh air, and then cooked up a quick dinner before training a client:

And in between two aforementioned activities, I ventured tip toed in the world of protein cookie dough.

I know. It’s weird. And when I first saw it on a few lovely ladies’ blogs, I wasn’t so sure. How can protein powder be good to chomp on? Well, let me tell you, these bloggers are onto something amazing, because mixed with a few simple ingredients, it’s amazing! In my concoction went a half scoop of Jay Robb Vanilla Brown Rice Protein Powder, 1 T. carob powder, 1 T. Naturally Nutty vanilla almond butter, a dash of sea salt, and a splash of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Nom.freaking.tastic.

Well tomorrow’s finally Thursday and I’m pretty excited about that. I may get out and run outside before work tomorrow. On my way to the gym this morning, I noticed it was light out! Hooray:)

Before I go, fellow Glee-lovers, whatdya think about the season premier last night? My favorite part: "Did you know dolphins are just gay sharks?" bahah. And also, I pledge not to let this blog get taken over with Glee quotes and info during the glorious second season 😉
