Revisiting Routes

Hi there! Happy Friday, guys! 😀

I am loving this cool front moving in the past couple of days! It’s still going to get up to 90 today, but this morning it’s in the 60’s! Perfect for running…

Quick and Hilly 7 6 Mile run

Since the end of May, I’ve been jumping on the trail to run my longer runs. There’s ample shade and minimal hills, and with the heat we’re having this year, it’s the only way to make it bearable! With the cooler than normal temps this morning, I took it as a chance to change up the scenery and run my fall 7 mile route.

Mile 1: 9:28

Mile 2: 8:58

Mile 3: 8:55

Mile 4: 9:17 (lots of hills!!)

Mile 5: 9:06 (the hills continued)

Mile 6: 8:35 (the hills flattened out + a burst at the end!)

Total: 6 miles in 54:17 🙂

What’s that? That’s only 6 miles? Apparently it’s been so long since I’ve run a long (6+ mile) run off the trail that I forgot the route was only 6! I needed to go an extra block through (ISU) campus to make it 7. Ah well 🙂 Good run either way.

About an hour before leaving, I munched on some Great Harvest 9 grain bread with a banana + PB + maca combo topping:

And when my Camel bak was dry (I threw it in the wash since it got drenched after my last longer run) I was off!

The run felt pretty good even though I had a pretty quick negative split run yesterday!

Yesterday at work was a food day – and the Great Harvest Bars I brought in got gobbled up STAT. My teammates know how to demolish some food! haha

I did a pretty good job of staying away from the food table. I grabbed up some hummus and crackers, plus half of a peach GHB bar, but that’s about it. For lunch, I ate an egg salad sandwich I threw together the night before.

This was seriously a little of this and a little of that. I have no specific measurements, but the ingredients were 1.5 hard boiled eggs, chopped, some greek yogurt, hummus, some mustard, vinegar, sea salt, cayenne, pepper, and lemon juice. Ta-da.

It was good! A little heavy on the cayenne, but still really good!

I didn’t have any clients to train after work yesterday, so Shane and I decided to go on a bike ride!!

Twas a beautiful day

Do you know how long I’ve been trying to get this man to go on a bike ride with me?

All. Summer. (we stopped at Jewel and had some technical difficulties with the bag on the way home 😉 )

It must be the lack of cigarettes. For those of you who missed it, my husband has been an on again off again smoker. He quit right before we got married, but started back up about a year ago. As of today, he is on Day Six of being smoke free. This is pretty dang monumental, folks. And he hasn’t even been being a jerkface!! 😀 haha

After the bike ride, my girl Missy came over to drop off Arizona, her puppy aka Niko’s bestie to play while she went to a meeting.

Meanwhile, the hubski cooked dinner on the grill!

Chopped sweet potatoes, carrots, onion, and ‘sparagus:

burger on a GHB 9 grain slice.

Dessert was an undocumented slice of paradise. I warmed up the other half of the GHB bar, and topped with with a scoop of frozen yogurt. Sorry you can’t witness the beauty of this simple dessert. A. La. Freakin. Mode.

Well I’m off to do a little website work, train a client, clean, and then get my shop on! I spent the better half of this morning (before my run) browsing fashion blogs, and now I’m inspired to go spend $$!! ha

Any plans for the weekend? I have lots of work to catch up on and get my booty workin’ on some CEC’s.

I think the addition of a 1 year old spaztastic dog made these two appreciate each other a little more:

They’re secret lover-buddies.

Lata Tayta’s!

Kitty Wheat Grass and the Burn Factor

What a week! Worked hard and now Friday is the reward 🙂 Hoo-rah!

Currently trying to decide what to whip up for breakfast. I took the morning off from exercise for my Birthday Eve 😉 Plus, tomorrow is the Big Birthday 10 Miles (*shudders*) and I’m petrified. Gah!

Before I get started into my day yesterday, I HAVE to show you this new thing I got for miss Clarabelle…

I got her her own wheat grass!

I had to grow it myself – and I started it last Friday, and I’ve already got grass!

I just poured the water in this litter looking stuff, and a few days later, it was sprouting!

I know she’s going to love this stuff. Seriously, who though of this? I mean, I make sure I get my greens, so why not make sure kitty does the same? hahaha awesome 🙂

OK, back to the topic at hand…

After office-work last night I went to the gym to train a couple clients, and when I got home, it was already somewhat late. And I was staaah-ving.

This’ll do the trick!

While the oven was pre-heating, I noshed on some veggies!

Shane had a bunch of guys over from work, and one of them brought in a veggie tray (!!) and left it at our house. I told Shane to give him a hug and kiss from me 😉

Look at the cute little seedless bell peppers!

I’ve never seen these before, but they are delicious! I opted for hummus as a dipper instead of the ranch. Yum!

Look at what else I came home to today:

IMG_1766My mom and dad sent them to me for my birthday. How sweet is that? Thank you mom and dad! Love you! 😀

Finally, the pizza was done cooking, and I filled up a plate:

Three big slices.

Minus one and a half crusts. Just because the hubski begged it off of me 😉 Also had a glass of red to wash it down:

Everything looks better with daisies as a back drop, don’tcha think??

For dessert, I had my attempt at making a POMcicle:

Last night I poured 100% POM juice into this cute little ice cube tray that my Secret Bloggy Valentine sent me:

And stuck…errr lay tooth pics on top. Turned out pretty OK!

The Burn Factor

The other day, I did some Saxon side bends in my full body workout, and it apparently, it’s been ages since I’ve done this exercise, because the day after, I was sore all the way from the top of my rib cage to my hip bones! And although I was sore, I recognized it as a "good kind of sore."

I know I’m not the only one who actually likes feeling sore from a workout the next day, right?!

And I know that you don’t have to be sore the next day in order to have a good workout. Really, the only reason we should be sore is if we’re doing a new (or new in a while) exercise, or working with a lot more weight or intensity. Although it’s not been proven, this soreness is believed to be caused by lifting eccentrically (i.e. the lowering motion of a bicep curl.) We get tiny microscopic tears in the muscle that need to be repaired. This is also called delayed onset muscles soreness, or DOMS.
This is different from the soreness we feel while we are actually doing the lifting or exercising – that’s a different type of soreness. That’s lactic acid build up that makes our muscles feel the ‘burn.’

Do you feel accomplished if you’re sore the next day from a workout? Like I said above, I do kind of like it, because I know I ‘got a good workout in.’ But on the other hand, it also helps me by reminding me that I’ve been slacking on that muscle/muscle group.

Any big plans for this weekend?? I’ve got birthday plans, obv 🙂 Tonight after work, the hubski and I are going to a little vegetarian cafe for an early dinner, then celebrating with some beers at a local bar with another birthday friend. Then tomorrow, we’re heading to my home town to hang out with some girlfriends (and their mens) who we haven’t seen in a while. These girls are my BFF4L’s (hehe) and I can’t WAIT to hang with ‘em!!!

Giveaway Winner

There’s been a mixup, and thus a new winner of the Lara Bar Contest! Unfortunately PB Swirl couldn’t accept the prize (due to mailing issues and names/addresses being given out.) So without further ado….

The new winner of the Giveaway is Swirly Cinna Cakes! Swirly, please email me so I can get you your bars! 😀

Again, thanks everyone, for entering!

So, if you’ve been reading my tweets, you probably have seen me complaining about my blender dying 😦 It’s sad because I only had it for one year, and it was a Black and Decker one, and now it’s broken! I got it out of the dishwasher, and there was a huge crack down the middle!

I was going to try and have them replace, but I read on their website that you have to have proof of purchase, and it has to be within 90 days of use. Well, first of all, it was a wedding gift, and secondly, it’s almost been a year.

I’ve been Green Monster-less for about five days 😦 But not anymore! Yesterday I went out and bought this Cuisinart Blender from Bergners:

600 watts baby! I’m going to make a smoothie this morning, and I’ll let you know how it turns out.

But for now, I have to go. Niko’s got an upset tummy, and she’s puking up something. This is now the second week in a row where I’ve had to miss work due to pets. Ay ay ay.

What have you done for your pets recently that has made you say “ay ay ay!?”
