Moscato and Cado Love

I had myself a nice little Sunday yesterday! Shane’s friend ended up picking him up from the Bear’s game, so I took off to meet my friend Heidi at the gym. It’s super funny/cute, because she’s due with her first child in December, and her belly is getting SO big. She’s all belly though. I know a lot of people say that, but I honestly don’t think she’s gained an ounce anywhere else (perhaps busting her booty at the gym 8 months pregnant has something to do with that;)) Well, she had two people come up to her and ask her about 5 questions, then tell her just how awesome it is she was at the gym. I told her I thought that was so nice, and definitely a confidence booster. She then told me after hearing it multiple times at the gym every. single. day. it gets old. I can only imagine! I still think it’s cute though;)

Anyway, I got to the gym about 20 minutes before Heidi, so I did some strength training:

  • 3 sets of 15 lat pull downs
  • 3 sets of 15 bicep curls
  • 3 sets of 15 rows
  • 3 sets of 15 lower back extension

I can already feel the burn in my lats. Burn, baby, burn!

When Heidi got there, we did 50 minutes of cardio, split up between:

  • 20 minutes of the treadmill
  • 10 of the stairmill
  • 20 on the elliptical

Then it was Starbucks time!!! This is becoming quite the ritual of ours. I ordered a nonfat latte, and since I hadn’t eaten breakfast time, I figured it’d be the perfect time to try out one of their pumpkin scones!

After we finished our coffee and scones, I drove across town to get a new light bulb for one of my headlights. Hubski tried replacing it for me last night, but he got the wrong side, so I went ahead and exchanged it out for the right one. After that excitement (ha) I went to Borders, and read a little bit of Alicia Silverstone’s new book, the Kind Diet.

Fun Fact: Did you know that carnivore’s intestines are much, much shorter than ours? It’s a reason she believes that humans weren’t supposed to eat meat in the first place. Because food is able to pass quickly through the short intestines, but spends a lot longer time getting digested and setting in longer intestines. Interesting, eh?

I’d like to buy this book soon, but for now, I just got Dreena Burton’s “Vive Le Vegan!”

And as you can see, I also got her other book, Eat, Drink & be Vegan (thanks, mom and dad!) My parents’ got me that one, and came over today and gave it to me. I’m so excited to try out a recipe. And you can definitely expect a recipe from EDABV this week, per RAN dad’s orders! So far, my dad’s LOVED every healthy/vegan/gluten free dessert I’ve made him, so perhaps I’ll make a dessert in case I see them again next weekend!

So my dad watched the Bear’s game while my mom and I hit up Von Maur (duh) and Fresh Market. I got a beautiful sweater at VM, which I’ll post tomorrow, and a couple Christmas presents that went home with my madre.

At Fresh Market, we got tons of fresh fruit, and a couple desserts. I also got some sushi:

Raw tuna-cado roll. Mmm, mm, mm!

My parents’ got Potbelly’s, but it was already 3, and I had to go to a birthday dinner at 6, so I stuck with something light. This worked perfectly!

I said my goodbyes to the parental unit, did a little housework, and was on my way to Biaggi’s for a birthday celebration! Celebration it was, indeed!

Oh, moscato, d’asti. How I adore thee.

After I got back to the homefront, I kicked back, did a little leisurely reading (as opposed to homework reading – which is leisurely as well, I guess. But I digress..) and watched me some Desperate Housewives. Good epi btw 😉

Now it’s time for some before-work-yoga! The candles are lit, and the room is filled with vanilla-lavender scent. Yogadownload, here I come:) I’m really getting to like this little ritual, by the way! It really sets the tone for the work day, and helps me to keep the calmness with me throughout the entire day. Love it:D

How was your weekend? Any good Halloween stories or any super cool costumes??

Hope Overflowing

Hey hey everyone! I hope you all made it through the hump day without too many bruises 😉 My day was very emotional. I felt empowered, motivated, and hopeful all day long. Honestly, I have to give some credit to you guys as a blogger community with all of your inspiring comments on last night’s post. You are all filled with inspiration and initiative! Also, Angela wrote some very encouraging and inspiring posts on Oh She Glows, which filled me to the brim with hope. This social media thing can be a wonderful thing. I just want to say how much I appreciate all of my readers, and how much I appreciate being able to read and contribute to your blogs.

*steps off soap box*

Don’t forget to enter my Banana Keeper and Lara Bar Giveaway! It ends tomorrow, so get your entries in 😀

Last night I made a new dish for dinner. Enter, Confetti Chili!

It’s a dish from Food You Crave. I loved all the color in this dish! Usually, the only veggie that goes in my chili is canned tomatoes, but this had tomatoes, plus corn, bell pepper, carrots, and onion! Shane and I both loooved it!

On the side we had a toasted Arnold’s Sandwich thin with Maranatha’s Peanut Butter (Hubski always says Maranatha with a southern drawl, btw LOL)

The rest of the night slipped away from me. I didn’t get done with dinner til 7:30 because I had gone to a Body Pump class right after work. It was an awesome class. Let me tell ya, my bi’s and hammies are screamin’ today!

However, I do remember a little of this:

with a side of this:

happening last night.

Today work sped by at a wonderful pace. I was a busy bee, but not too busy.

Some Good Eats worth noting:

Bananaberrybutter oatmeal +flax

Strawberry Peanut Butter M-n-M’s. Yes! My friend called me over and said, “Hey Paige, I saw something crazy last night and thought of you!” After giving her the -one-eyebrow-lifted look she rephrased to, “Well, I know you love strawberries, and I know you love peanut butter (true and true.)” Either way, I gladly accepted them, and then proceeded to finish more than half the bag and then passed them onto another co worker. They were quite delish.

A Pumpkin Spice Latte. C’mon, Starbucks makes a lunch meeting SO much better:)

A delicious bowl of Fage Greek Yogurt + fresh raspberries + Double Chocolate Vita Top, which also so happens to be my favorite!

Now I’m off to do a 45 minute elliptical sesh in the workout room while watching the newest Gossip Girl! The flocks of plant lice are still among us, and there’s no way I’m going to become a human windshield again, so elliptical was an easy decision.

I hope you all have a lovely hump day! See you in the morning 🙂

Have you read any blogs/posts that have been ultra inspiring (even if it’s your own!) ? If so, please let me know! I looove reading them 😀

Rainy rainy Wednesday

It’s been raining all morning today. Hopefully the sun pops in to visit sometime this afternoon.

Sorry I’ve been MIA all day. I went to Starbucks to blog, and I didn’t realize they didn’t offer free wifi! I might start having a lot more lunches over at Panera because of this! Besides, I wouldn’t mind having a Fuji salad a couple days a week ;-)Since I was already at Starbucks, I went ahead and ordered an unsweetened passion fruit iced tea. I love these things!

This morning’s workout was a good one. I was a wee bit late, but I got in about 20 minutes of cardio before Body Pump. The tri workout was extra tough today.
When I got to work I had some Kashi cereal for breakfast.
Lunch was in my car, unfortunately, because of poor planning on my part. That, and because Starbucks, unlike Panera, doesn’t offer free wifi to their loyal customers! But I digress… Lunch was an ABJ on Arnold’s 100% whole wheat flax bread, with a peach and some watermelon.
It was delightful, and the peach was extra juicy!
Snackies: Two bars – Lara and Luna:

Speaking of Luna Bars, Shane and I both really love the White Chocolate Macadamia flavor, so I’ve been sending one with him to work every day. Yesterday, he came home and told me one of his buddies started ragging on him because it says “for women,” on the wrapper! I’ve never noticed this, but it’s in plain sight. Does anyone know if the ingredients are actually geared toward women? I wonder if he’ll stop taking them to work…hehe
Since I succeeded to wake up earlier than heck again today, tonight I’ll have time to do an after-work task of: cleaning out the fridge/freezer. This one should be fairly easy since I really need to go shopping as it is, but there are a few things in there that need to be pitched.
10K Training Plan
As I said in yesterday’s post, I’m training for a 10K. Not too long ago, I finished cool running’s Couch25K training plan, and now that I’ve started running, I’m an addict. I’m up to 4.3 miles now, but I prefer to follow a training plan to minimize injury and maximize motivation. It just works for me.
For the 10K training plan, I’m using Hal Higdon’s plan, with my own spin on it. I run three to four times a week – the first run on Tuesday, which is a short 3 miler. Each running day gradually increases. I’ll maybe do a 3.5 miler on Thursday, a 4 miler on Friday, then a 4.5 on Sunday. I’m going to continue this, but each week, add a tenth of my distance onto Sunday’s run, until I reach 10k. The days I don’t run, I do cross training, such as Tuesday’s elliptical work out, or strength training, like today’s Body Pump session.
While training, I’m also working on increasing my speed for running a 5k. I’m running in my 5k first race (weee!!) on August 8th, and I want to try and make my best time.
Oh how I love running. Oh, how crazy it is that I’m typing that? I never ever thought I’d actually enjoy running. Growing up, running was always my least favorite part during the practice of all of the sports I played. I guess it’s just another part of me that’s becoming more and more like my mom– she used to be a marathon runner! I doubt I’ll ever get to that distance, but who knows?
Is there a type of exercise you thought you’d never like, but then tried and loved?
