KC Bound!

Hi there bloggies! Hope you’re having a wonderful Friday night so far. I’ve had a long, but fun, day of travel, and am now relaxing in the hotel before going out to a comedy club and some bars. Figured I’d blog now since the only thing I’m likely to want to do when returning is being horizontal in this lovely lush hotel bed!

This morning at 5:00, I woke up so I could head to the gym before the husband and I headed to the airport to travel to a wedding Shane is in this weekend.

I had an easy 3 mile run planned, which actually wasn’t so easy. I’m not sure what was up with me, but my heart rate was SO high. I’m thinking it might be because I didn’t have a full 24 hours to recover from my last workout. I went to a pretty intense yoga class last night, then turned around and cranked out a run less than 10 hours later. Woops. After the run, I did some back, bi’s, and core work. Left feeling pretty darn good.

Came home and started to finished packing:

Two carry-on’s and a suitcase. For a weekend. I can’t help it!

Love Lululemon layers 😀 Seriously, lulu gear is amazing for travel. Got my wonder unders, a sleeper tank and a jacket on to ensure a comfy yet put together ensemble 😉

Finally all packed, and we were off…to Kansas City. Yep. We flew from Illinois to Missouri. It’s a seven hour drive, and we scored some super inexpensive tickets, so why not fly?

Travel drinky:

IMG_1612 Gingerade Kombucha

Over Night Oats. 1/3 c. oats, 1.5 T chia seeds, 1 T. PB2, 1 T. flax, 1/4 c. plain Greek yogurt, stevia all mixed together and chillin’ overnight, then come morning Mix My Granola, Barney Butter, and TJ’s pumpkin butter joined the party.

Shane’s travel eats differed just slightly from mine:

Burger King (blech)  IMG_1615

He was so excited for this biscuit he was shaking bahaha

We were running about half an hour ahead of schedule (can you believe it?!) for our flight, so I threw out the idea of having the husband take me to the nearest Trader Joes, and was ecstatic when he agreed!!

Into the city we went:

And found the Trader Joe’s nearest Midway (La Grange, if anyone is familiar with the area.) Numerous jars of raw unsalted almond butter, roasted pepper and tomato bisque soup, chocolate, and other items later…

…and we were back to being behind schedule. Phew, I was feeling out of my element! 😉

We got to Midway to find that our flight was delayed, so took advantage of the extra time by grabbing some lunch at Harry Carry’s:

All I wanted was an ice water (I was parched!)

But after a few minutes, I also ordered a draft beer 😀

There’s something about draft beer in airports that make them oh-so-good!

And after having a few of Shane’s fries..

…I finally decided just to get something for myself, too. I ordered the Tuscan salad, which was phenomenal!

Romaine, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, chickpeas, red peppers and more. SO good!

Finally, our gate was called, and our plane took off to Kansas City!

We literally got to the hotel, changed, and went directly to the rehearsal dinner. Talk about a busy schedule!

Unfortunately, the rehearsal dinner featured a slew of meat/bbq:

Even the beans had meat in them! I basically had a pickle sandwich and some coleslaw. Obviously not photo worthy.

Nevertheless, it was a good time catching up with everyone and talking wedding 😀

IMG_1628  IMG_1631

Yikes! Someone looks like she’s been traveling all day!

My dinner when we got back to the room:

I went all out 😉

Well it’s time to head back down to the lobby to go to the comedy club! I’m pretty stoked – we’re getting a Hummer limo for the ride there and back. Ballin’ 😎

Gotta behave though, I’m planning to get in my 5.5 mile run tomorrow in the hotel gym before the wedding festivities start! I’ll catch up with you hopefully tomorrow before the wedding begins!

This is How I Roll

Good morning! Happy Sunday 😀 How’s it going for ya so far?

I woke up at 6:00 this morning to blow my nose and could NOT fall back asleep. Argh. Laid there with the petski’s until about 7:00 and then dragged my butt outta bed.

This made it all better though!

Kiss me Kona

Blueberry oats w/ a shiz ton of mix ins – I was even brave enough to include chia seeds

Yep. All better 😀

So yesterday ended up being filled with lots n lots of besties! Can’t beat that!

First I met my girl, Jessica, to try on my bridesmaids dress for her wedding:

She got the dresses from J. Crew’s bridal line and they’re SO cute. I know the famous last words are always, “And you’ll be able to wear it again!!!” but this time, I really think I will…

Don’tcha think? And actually..this is the one that was a little roomy on me. Luckily she had a size smaller in her car, which fit perfectly! That doesn’t happen too often when it comes to bridesmaids dresses. Can’t wait for the wedding!

The dress was adorable, and very lightweight for her outdoor wedding, but I’m always glad to get back into casual clothes after playing dress up. Today I was sporting my “This is How I Roll” shirt:

Got it on our honeymoon, hehe.

After chit chattin’ a bit with Jess and her fiancé, Clint (who looks like Edward from Twilight! Shoulda taken a pic…) we had a bit more time before dinner, so the husband and I decided to bowl a couple games across the street:

This is How I Bowl.

Sorry for the craptastic pictures. I forgot my cam at my parent’s house, and had my iPhone only.

Action shots:

We both sucked it up big time, but Shane won, and the prize was not having to drive for the night. I was OK with it since I didn’t plan on drinking much, anyway.

Two games later, and we met up with a group of friend’s at Kouri’s, a pub and restaurant in my hometown.

It’s definitely not a veg-friendly place, so I ended up having a blurry dinner salad and some spinach artichoke dip:

But that’s all right, because I was really there for the FRIENDS!

Destiny, aka D$, aka the bringer of Trader Joes goodies:

Freakin’ awesome friend right there!

Jessica, aka, bride-to-be, aka BFF since 4th grade!

Kim! aka ship mate, aka newly engaged hot mama

Plus a few random boys we like to call our friends and/or significant others 😉

Everyone peaced around 9ish, so Shane and I went back to my parents to pick up the pup and head back home. Any time Niko spends ANY amount of time at my parents house, she absolutely wears herself out. Seriously. she wouldn’t even move from the bed when Shane MADE the bed this morning. LOL

Sleep tight, pup.

Good thing it’s still early, because I’ve got a laundry list of things to do (including laundry!) First stop – gym for a 4-5 mi. run (depending on how I feel..still got the sniffles,) Borders to use a coupon, pet store, then clean, clean, clean! Oh yeah, and football 😀

Have a faaaabulous day, all!

Are you still good friends with your high school buddies? All of the BFF’s mentioned above went to highschool with me, and I’m proud to say we’re still BFF’s to this day! We all live in different cities (so far the same state) so it’s hard to get together often, but I love when we do 😀

LuLu, Trip to my Lu

Happy Thanksgiving week! I’m super pumped, because my work week only goes to Wednesday, and each word day is an hour shorter for me! The only thing is, I have a deadline at work of Wednesday at 3:00, so I’ll be working as hard as I can to get everything done by then.

Yesterday I woke up with an insane craving to drive to Oakbrook to go to their Lululemon. As I said yesterday, I found out our cruise ship has aerobics classes and a gym, so naturally, I wanted to buy new work out clothes for it 😉 I finally convinced my mom to ride along with me to keep me company for the 1 hr 45 minute drive 😀 Woo hoo! (I can’t stand driving, let alone driving by myself, btw – random tidbit.)

I wanted to get in a 5 mile run, so soon after I finished my breakfast, I was out the door for a beautifully quick five miles. I haven’t had a good 5+ mile run in a while – I’ve always come back tired and not feeling great, but I felt like I zipped through this one! Maybe it was the nice weather we were having, or perhaps it was the thoughts of Lululemons dancing in my head…

Anyway, I came home, showered, and got lunch and snacks packed before my mom got to my house.

Two veggie sandwiches – one with pesto, one with hummus:IMG_2248 IMG_2249 IMG_2250 Bars, V chips, and snack mixes:

IMG_2251 We ended up eating everything except the bars!

And we’re off:

Per usual, I found and wanted about everything in the store:

But then finally narrowed it down…

IMG_2254 Weellll…kind of narrowed it down 😉 IMG_2257 IMG_2262

And then since I found out there was a Trader Joes about four miles down the road and on our way home, of course I had to stop:

IMG_2260    TJ goodies!!! Plus some meatless balls, European yogurt, and a TJ insulated bag.

We got home at a decent hour, which was good, because I had a birthday dinner to attend to! My friend’s birthday was this weekend, and we celebrated by going to Flat Top. Speaking of which, I haven’t been to Flat Top in for-ev-er, but I kinda am obsessed with it after last night!! Hellloo options for vegetarians!! Anyway, it ended up being a double celebration, because said-friend’s boyfriend proposed to her Saturday night!!! 😀 She was so cute and giddy, haha.

Well now it’s off to make that dough for a while! Have a great start to your Thanksgiving week!

When you go on vacation, do you feel compelled to buy new clothes for it?? It’s horrible, but I always do!! haha

If It Hatha be Monday…

Good morning! I can’t believe it’s already Monday again! And so the cycle re-starts. I just finished a wonderful Gentle Hatha yoga session to help bring me into the work week. I just love this little yoga habit I’ve gotten myself into 😀 If it hatha be Monday, might as well start it with peace and calmness.

I think I did pretty good with my back on track goals – I know I got in my fruits and veggies, and I definitely gave Niko her share of walkies. It was absolutely gorgeous out in central Illinois yesterday – with the temperature reaching 70 degrees!

I had plans yesterday morning to meet my friend, Heidi at the gym when I woke up. But first, I wanted to make the hubski some pancakes using some of Trader Joe’s pumpkin pancake mix I scored a few weeks ago:

He gobbled them up as soon as I snapped a picture! I snagged a bite, too, and I must say, they’re quite delicious.

I however, wanted some toast and jam – the simple route. So I got out the whole wheat Great Harvest bread I got a couple days ago, and wrapped a couple pieces in tinfoil to toast in the oven.

Slathered in black cherry jam, basking in they’re deliciousness, gym fuel:

Gym workout  cardio-wise was an easy 20 minutes of incline walking on the treadmill (didn’t want to over do it after my cardio party from Saturday) and the following full body workout:

Bicep curls: 2 sets of 12 @ 15 lbs.

Chest press: 2 sets of 12 @ 15 lbs.

Overhead tricep extension: 2 sets of 12 @ (one weight) 15 lbs.

Bent row: 2 sets of 12 @ 20 lbs.

Lat pull down: 2 sets of 12 w/ 45 lbs.

Pushups: 10

Squats: 2 sets of 12 w/ 2 15 lb. dumbbells

Roman Deadlift: 2 sets of 12 w/ 2 15 lb. dumbells

Crunches: 25 on stability ball

I was pretty beat and shaky after this workout, and needed to get some protein to these muscles, and I did just that. We drove over to Starbuckie’s where we each got a latte and chit chatted for about an hour. And made got some humor out of a few Starbuck’s go-ers who were just too cool for school. You know what I’m talking about! mahaha

Got some housework and odds and ends done, and then fried up some lunch.

Two egg, one egg white omelet, fried in butta, with tomato, yellow pepper, and spinach:

IMG_2001 Made with Free Range (and happy!) chicken’s eggs.

Is it sad that my Great Harvest bread is almost gone? hehe

Fueled and ready to learn, I set up shop for the rest of the afternoon for some studying:

I have to learn these neurons, muscles, joints and tendons! ack!!

Oh, on an exciting note, I signed up for a CPR/AED course to be certified so I can sit for the fitness certification exam. Holla! Not so exciting: I sit for the exam the day after I get back from my cruise in December. Looks like someone will be toting around a study guide while basking in the sun. It’s a rough life, no? 😉

A little while into studying, I did not feel well at all. I felt tired (and even fell asleep,) weak, and lethargic. I’m pretty sure I was dehydrated. After all the workouts I did this weekend, I don’t think I took in enough fluids at all. Plus, I haven’t been making a conscious effort to drink lots of water lately. Don’t want to slack in that department! Perhaps I should add “drink more water” to the back on track list? 🙂

After several cups of this:

IMG_2006 And a couple other methods of hydration: IMG_2008

I felt quite better, and was able to finish my study time.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get all of it done that I wanted to (do we ever??) but it was then time for the last event of the hubski’s birthday weekend celebration! His fam and mine all got pizza from the best pizza place in this city:

Lucca Grille – mmmm!

I didn’t take a picture, but I got what I get every. single. time. Veggie pizza with extra tomatoes. Yumtopia, my friends. Afterword, we all sat around and had a beer while we caught up – and a good time was had by all 😀

Time to go make some moneys –  off to that work place!

How was your weekend? Did you have awesome weather, too?! It seems like almost every blog I read this weekend mentioned something about the great weather!

Best Friends and Trips to Trader Joes

Hey hey party people! I’ve had an wonderful and eventful day so far! Shane and I drove over to Chicago to stay with my friend Destiny to visit and for the race tomorrow.

Before we got to Destiny’s, Shane said I could stop at Lululemon!! 😀 Woo hooo!

I got a tank and a long sleeved running top for the big race tomorrow, and better yet – both were on sale! Holla 😀

After the mini lulu spree, we booked it over to the packet pick up. I was worried, because they had a record amount of people sign up for the races this year, and only the first 2,000 people to pick up their packets got a goody bag and a shirt. The packet pick up was open all week, so I had no idea if there’d still be any left. And we all know how much I like my race T-shirts!

I was one of the first 2,000, hooray! Cute shirt, eh?

After settling into the guest room at Destiny’s, we had a blast just kicking it in her cute living room talking it up. Look how cute her weiner dog, Pocket it!

Awww:~)~ ! She’s gonna be Elvis for Halloween, and she was modeling her costume for us.

A while later, we all decided we were becoming hungry beasts, and headed downtown for lunch:

IMG_1186 IMG_1187 IMG_1188

There were tons of cute restaurants, but we finally decided on Shanahan’s, a Creale restaurant:

IMG_1189 IMG_1190

We were all super thirsty too, so we had some bloody mary’s to quench our thirst;)

To start out with, I had some tomato bisque soup, which was spicy and DELISH!

Then for my main dish, I had the vegetable jumbalaya, which was fabulous as well! Full of crisp, yummy bell peppers:

After lunch, you had to roll us out of there. Some how, we found some room for some delectable chocolates and this cute tiny little chocolate shop next door:

And Shane found some gelato, which he let me share:

IMG_1195 Mmm:) Half pumpkin, half wedding cake.

A couple hours of mindless TV, resting, and chit chat later, Destiny took me to my first Trader Joe’s ever!!

It was all I ever dreamed of! haha I loved it! I wish we had one in Bloomington!

I’m off to go drink a pumpkin beer and settle in for the night! Check ya tomorrow after the 10 K! Whoop whoop!!

Later Taters:D
