My Fitness
Story

My whole life, I’ve been involved in some sort of fitness. By the time I was 5, I considered myself a tomboy. I liked to play outside, I was already on my first sports team (tee ball,) and never missed a neighborhood game of kick the can.

Throughout middle school and junior high, I continued playing sports, such as basketball, volleyball, and poms (dance team.) I really found my niche in volleyball, and played clear up until my sophomore year of college. I quit because I transferred to a big university, but my love for fitness – and how being fit made me feel – was still there, so I signed up for a gym right away, and worked out daily. My love for physical fitness and working out continued to grow.

In the spring of 2009, I found my passion for running. I started the Couch 2 5K program and found out I COULD run 3.1 miles straight. I was amazed, and craved more. That summer, I ran in three 5k’s and two 10k’s, and plan to run a half marathon this spring.

In early October 2009, I signed up for a course for ACE personal training at my local community college, and passed the ACE state exam in December 2009.  I’m now an ACE certified personal trainer, and I’m SO excited for where that will take me on this continuum of fitness.

OK, enough back story. On to the FUN stuff!

Zoo Stampede 5k

My First Half Marathon – The Illinois Marathon

I had SO much fun running these races, and cannot WAIT to start training again this spring.

I’ve learned that my workout schedule in the spring and summer varies greatly from fall and winter. I run four days a week when I’m raining. And while getting in some strength training, my main focus is running.

When I’m not training for a race, I’d say my work out “style” is all about balance. Getting in all the components of fitness: cardiorespiratory/vascular, Strength training, and flexibility.  For a more in depth and detailed view of how I workout, you can go visit my daily workout log.

Workout Routines

Below you’ll find step by step workout demonstrations of typical workout routines I’ll do. I hope to soon be able to put a couple videos out there as well!

  1. I stumbled across your blog this afternoon, and it’s great! I did the Couch to 5K as well, and now I’m heading for a half marathon in May and the Chicago Marathon in October. I’ll be following along!
