Last Kombucha Standing

Hi guys! Thanks for all the congrats on my blog’s first anniversary/blogiversary (if you will.) I was pretty stoked, haha. Now I can say “last year today, I/we…” and have a clear picture of what went down. It’s the simple things, people.

Anyway, what a great 4th of July! After training and getting in a little cardio and weights myself, I was in need of some fuel. I bought some tempeh over the weekend, and had been wanting to try it out with jam. I’ve seen it so many times on other blogs, but have only eaten tempeh savory. Let me tell ya, it was a winner!

IMG_0046Tempeh with Crofters jam on a whole wheat bakery bun…it was divine!

Before Independence Day festivities, I ran some errands, and cleaning relaxed. One of my finds was some kombucha!

IMG_0049

This is pretty exciting because kombuchas being taken off store shelves for its alcohol content, and I grabbed the last two bottles standing at Fresh Market!

Later, we finally headed over to a friend’s house for a barbeque.

I brought red, white, and blue green cookie dough balls (Averie’s recipe) and sweet and savory coleslaw (which will be on the recipes tab soon. I’m slowly but surely chipping away at it:) )

IMG_8001

We had a great time at the cookout – good food, wine, and company. Actually, I should say DELICOUS food. Take a look at these kabobs (TWSS heh)

 IMG_0051

I also tried lychees for the first time. They peel like an orange, look like a strawberry, feel like a grape after peeling (or some other unnamed object) and taste like melon!

IMG_0052

Pretty weird!

When it got dark, we drove over to the park to check out the fireworks.

IMG_0055

The show was actually pretty weak sauce. It lasted all of 10 minutes! Feeling the effects of the economy I suppose. We headed home shortly after because while many people have today off, I had a client to train at 6:00 a.m! Luckily, I woke up feeling not too shabby at 5 this morning, and headed on in, trained, and then stayed for a 4 mile sweaty tready run of my own.

Starved, I ate over night 25 minute oats.

 IMG_0061

And then headed to the Dr’s office to get some bloodwork done *cringe*

I had grand plans of finishing my recipe’s tab afterward, but I came home to an office that looked like this:

 IMG_0065

IMG_0063

The husband apparently caught the organizing bug, heh

So I fueled up:

Veggie baked beans, potato, carrot, and onion mix, and aforementioned sweet and savory coleslaw.

And am now going to go help him tackle this impromptu project.

Wish me luck ;)

What were you doing on this day, July 5th, last year? I went to my parents’ anniversary party and then to another cook out! Fun times.

Time’s a Changin’ and a PDR!

Morning all! Happy Daylight Savings Time! Remember to set your clocks ahead?

So how was everyones’ weekends? Mine’s been filled with good fun and good company!

One Friday a month I get together with a group of girlfriends for wine, shenanigans, and bunco, and this Friday was one of those nights! It was such a blast. Like I said in my previous post, it was one of the girl’s birthdays, so it gotta little more crazy than usual 😉

IMG_1748

IMG_1746
Oh, and everyone loved the balls I brought 😀

IMG_1745

Birthday cake…that I never got a chance to try! Oh but don’t worry, there were other goodies sampled 😉
I didn’t end up winning anything, but it was a great time, nonetheless!

After a night of indulgence (i.e. glasses of wine and an abundance of sugar) I had a nice, stabilizing breakfast:

IMG_5889IMG_5887
Oat (bran) in a jar!

In the jar of goodness was:

-1/2 c. oat bran
-1/2 c. water
-1/2 c. almond milk
-1 packet of Purevia
-1 T. hemp powder
-1 banana
-About a T. of almond butter

Then it was time to get ready for a long run. The weather was rainy and about 45 degrees, so it was a bit of an internal debate on whether it was happening inside on the dreadmill or outside on the road. During the couple hours it took to digest breakfast, while I was majorly indecisive as to whether I’d run in or outdoors, I received THREE packages!

Here’s a couple of em:

IMG_5891

Birthday Lulu’s!

My mom got me some of the new Wunder Groove crops, and I am in LURVE with them. Two best styles combined into one, if ya ask me!

Another package was from Ryan at POM Wonderful, who sent me a case of their 100% pure pomegranate juice to sample:

IMG_5900

Review and experimentations coming soon 😉

After tearing into my packages, I finally decided on manning up and hitting the open road.

I used map my run to determine my route, but ended up getting a little more than I bargained for…

At what should have been the half way mark, I was already at 5 miles, and around mile 6, I ate to Clif Shot Bloks I packed in the bottom of my water bottle:

IMG_5908

And got back to my house after 8.5 miles total, 1:22:46 later I got back to my house not feeling too shabby aside from my right hip being a little tight.
Stats n Splits:

Mile 1: 9:39
Mile 2: 9:46
Mile 3: 9:57
Mile 4: 10:06
Mile 5: 9:43
Mile 6: 9:48
Mile 7: 9:38
Mile 8: 9:29
Mile 8.5: 9:02

Woot! Average pace was 9:44. Not too shabby!

And that, my friends, is a personal distance record for this girl!  Yep, the farthest I’ve run is 8 miles. This…is was 8.5 miles felt like:

It also finally feels like running season has officially started for me. I came back with blisters and a wound (warning)

IMG_5896Ouuchie!
Let the race season begin! 😉

After a quick shower, I made a delicious refueling Green Monster:

IMG_5897

IMG_5898
This GM contained a little more ingredients than the ushe:
-1 frozen banana
-1/2 c. frozen cherries (which are natural anti-inflammatories)
-1 T. maca
-1 T. chia seeds (great for joint lubrication)
-1/2 scoop of choc. protein powder
-1 T. almond butter
-Almond milk
-2 handfuls of spinach

So good, and kept me full for a good few hours, even after a long run!

After a little laziness, the hubski and I headed out and braved the rain to do some runnin’ around town. We were on the hunt for a nice centerpiece for our kitchen table! We seriously went to about six stores looking for the right centerpiece, and finally settled on this beaute from Pier One:

Whatdya think? Doesn’t it go perfectly with the painting behind it?! I love, love, love it:D She’s a keeper.

While we were out, I polished off this lovely bar:

IMG_5890

Quite the fantastic bar, if I do say so myself!

Also sipped on this as we were bumming around:

IMG_5901

Around 5, we picked up a couple Papa Murphy’s pizzas and headed home!

IMG_5910 IMG_5911

These pizzas were for the company we had over last night! My brother and sister-in-law came down for some pizza, movie, and family time and it was a blast! While the pizzas were cooking, we just hung out in the kitchen for a while talkin’ up a storm, munching on some snacks, and sippin’ on some drinks:
IMG_5909

IMG_5907

My SIL loooves Kahlua, so I knew she’d join me in an after dinner drink of decaf and Kahula + cream:

IMG_5906

We sipped on this while watching Couples Retreat. It was a pretty good movie! Kinda hokey at times, but overall, a good flick, in my opinion! It was so nice to see them – seems like it’s far and few between that we get together like this. Wish I woulda gotten a picture!

Well it’s already almost noon! The time’s a changin’ and it’s catching up with me! On the agenda for today:

  • gym with Heidi for a run and legs
  • grocery shopping
  • going through LLC and other self-employed business
  • laundry
  • floors

Yikes! It’s a busy one!! Better get crackin’ 😀

Have a beautiful Sunday, everyone!!

Which daylight savings do you prefer more? Springing ahead or falling back? I’m a HUGE fan of springing ahead. I hate when it gets dark so early! When it stays lighter later, it reminds me of barbeques, long evening walks, and SUMMER!

Is that Fish Eggs?!

Hey hey lovelies! How’s your Saturday going?

Mine’s been great! I woke up supah early around 7:00. Why so early? Well, let’s just say the hubski and I couldn’t even make it until Conan last night (we DVR’d it though.) Talk about a couple of par-tay-ers! haha

But before crashing out, we watched Valkyerie (which I really enjoyed!) and I made a fab potato soup. When I saw Angela’s Quick and Easy Potato soup, I knew I had to try it.

Pretty much followed her recipe, except added some org. heavy cream (muahaha) to the mix. Turned out deeelicious:

IMG_5059

The hubski and I each ate one big bowl with a several whole wheat rolls:

IMG_5060

I never typically make homemade soup, but this was definitely a winner.

A little movie and Good Eats watching, and cocounut ice cream slurping later:

IMG_5077

and we both were crawling up the stairs to hop in bed. But first, I had to try something out…

When I was at the local health food store yesterday, I picked up a bag of chia seeds from the bulk bin. I’d been meaning to pick up these critters for a while to try and make some chia seed pudding that I’ve seen around the bloggy world. Well last night before crashing out, I mixed a 1/4 c. chia seeds with 3/4 c. almond milk, some flax, and some hemp powder.

Woke up and it looked like this:

IMG_5065

Congealed and puddingy. Not to mention when the husband saw this, he now really thinks I’ve gone bonkers.

Even the pets gave me weird looks:

IMG_5083

I mixed in some agave, PB2, bananas, cinnamon, and granola:

IMG_5066

Deeelicious   Meehhhh not for me. I don’t know if it was the consistency, the fact that Shane said it looked like fish eggs, or the texture, but I couldn’t finish the bowl for the life of me. It might be good if I added a tad to overnight oats, but on its own – no way jose.

Since I had a full body weights sesh planned at the gym, I choked down as much as I could for fuel and then spent an hour at the gym working on legs, glutes, and upper body. Twas a muscle and heart pumping (I just wrote pumpking hehe) workout in deed.

Refueled with a grande soy half pump vanilla latte with my girl, Heidi, as we bee bopped around town, shopping for random odds and ends.

Came back, mowed on some roasted sweet potato and Quorn chik’n nuggets:

IMG_5088

IMG_5090

IMG_5089

These chik’n nuggets are meat and soy free and are SO delicious. Couldn’t believe it. Also had a 1/4 of an avocado on the side.

And some booch.

IMG_5087

Now I gotta skidaddle in to town to meet Jessica for bridesmaids dress fittings and Destiny for dinner and drinkies!

Probably won’t be able to blog lata today, so have a sweet Saturday and I’ll catch ya’ll tomorrow!
